WhistlePig Old World Cask Finish Rye 12 Year
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Vermont), USA
Reviewed October 30, 2020 (edited January 16, 2021)Favorite rye! Nice port smell with a bit of butter, a little sweet too. First tasting hits the classic spicy rye flavor - but a little smoother than usual ryes with a good raisin taste. Very smooth towards the end, sweeter finish, with orange, caramel, and just a hint of marshmallow i find with rye -
Koval Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Illinois, USA
Reviewed September 29, 2020 (edited March 10, 2021)Fun and pleasant drink. Good sweetness all the way through - but never sugary. Got the big mango and apricot flavor, with a bit of the port at the very end. -
Oban Distillers Edition
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed June 3, 2020 (edited June 19, 2020)This is the good stuff. So enjoyably complex. Super sweet nose, peach, caramel and sweet cherry. The taste completely twists though, tart and tangy apples and cherries hits hard at the front, but then comes a salty, briny, and light peat flavor that really lingers even after finishing. The best part is the dryness that is there throughout the taste. Like a Tempranillo wine dry that helps the flavor flow from tang to salty peat. -
Loving this rye bourbon. Sweet, caramel nose. Stays consistent from the front to the back on the taste. Big rye flavor with raisins, but also a bourbon sweetness that sticks around well after you finish. The port cask really comes in at the finish as well, with that port wine sugary lingering well after.

The Glenrothes 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 8, 2020 (edited November 27, 2020)Bought this on a whim for the quarterly Flaviar credit. Haven't had a Glenrothes before and don't know them to be that historical of a brand. So pleasantly surprised when I tried this. So interestingly sweet the whole way through. Huge flavors of banana, vanilla, and cinnamon. Very pleasing. I haven't tried any scotch quite like this. It goes very well off the beaten path of my homebar, might always have to keep a bottle on hand to always be able to switch up the vibe. -
Didn't get big distinctive notes on the nose, a decent, caramel and sweetness. Hits a little harder than I expected in the front. Big spice with some raisin and soft fruit tones. Spice at the front ended up drowning kind of harsh though. The finish really saves it. Spice falls away and you get that nice, creamy vanilla oak that lingers nicely. The finish makes me think it deserves another big drag until I get that spicy front again. Not normally a water guy but I did find a couple of drops helps cut the aggressiveness at the front a bit (seems obvious)
