Hardin's Creek Jacob's Well
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 19, 2023 (edited January 26, 2024)Aroma - Red apples, vanilla and wet oak… old and musty. Rye profile shows up with cinnamon and baking spices. Not extremely complex.. but it is a very enjoyable. Taste - wow. Oh man.. that is really freaking good. Just a flavor bomb going off right now and a nice long finish for 104 proof. Old wet oak, and leather.. vanilla, red apples, slight nuttiness, cinnamon. Super rich and decadent. The balance is fantastic. Easy 4.75 for me. -
Aroma - very bright fruit notes with a nice caramel and vanilla backbone. Very complex fruit profile. Really enjoying it. Berries, oranges, apricot/peaches… absolute dessert bomb. Taste - Follows the nose… really nice. Overall - great Irish whiskey…. Just too short of a finish and which it had a bit more body to it. But love how there’s a new subtle flavor every time you come back and take a sip

Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C922
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 19, 2023 (edited September 21, 2023)Aroma - Dark fruits and cinnamon and caramel dominate the nose. Faint hint of baking spices. Taste - wow. Front starts off with a big blast of caramel and alcohol soaked dark fruits. Mid palate is a little bit brighter (citrus) and then the finish is all spice especially cinnamon. Coats the palate very nice and has a long finish. Overall - it’s really freaking good and if you can get it for under $80 it’s an absolute must buy. Sitting around that 4.3-4.4 range but I’ll give it a bump on the star rating since it’s the best offering I’ve had from them to date. -
Aroma - strawberry candy, flat cherry cola… notes of a children’s fruity tooth paste… honestly this is really bizarre and quite off putting aroma to be honest. I’m getting almost no stout notes and all fruit. Hopefully the palate is better than the aroma. Taste - The stout profile is noticeable on the finish. Lots of chocolate on the finish which I enjoy… but its the front and mid palate that ruin this one.. Once again, lots of fruity rye notes. Man I am not a fan of this whatsoever. If NyQuil was made with rye and chocolate…then water added to thin it out… this is what you would get.

Sagamore Spirit Sherry Finish Rye
Rye — Maryland, USA
Reviewed January 19, 2023 (edited June 22, 2023)Aroma - digging it. Lots of dark cherries mixed with bubblegum… some chocolate and lots of brown sugar up front. As it opens up, the rye really shines through adding a ton more complexity. Really great balance here. Taste - First thing that jumps out at me is the balance of this. It really is a terrific blend of the rye spices (cinnamon with slight hint of mint) up front then the finish is tons of daek cherries and chocolate. Every once in a while the rye spice sneaks back in on the finish but it mostly at the front of the palate. Overall - it’s another amazing offering by Sagamore. I do wish it was slightly more viscous and coated the mouth a bit more. The finish isn’t as long as I was hoping for. -
Proof 116.8 Batch - Pure1 Aroma - nutty, white chocolate, root beer, cherry, dark fruits. Taste - Ash/smoke up from and on the finish, the smoke returns. Mid palate I’m getting a root beer float, cherries, and slight almond note. Medium to long finish. Coats the palate nicely. Overall - this one is a bit perplexing. On some sips.. the smoke dominates. On others I get a ton of those mid palate notes and its quite nice.

Smoke Wagon Bottled in Bond Straight Rye Whiskey
Rye — USA
Reviewed October 15, 2022 (edited November 8, 2022)Aroma - tons of apples , pears and sugar candy are very pronounced here. There’s a slight hint of citrus. But the apples and pears just dominate the nose. As it opens, I’m getting some fresh cut lumber notes. Rye profile coming through as bubblegum here and hint of cinnamon. Taste - Again, I’m getting lots of apple here (full disclosure, apple is not my favorite flavor profile) There is a sweet cupcake frosting on the finish. The rye is very mute here. And at 51/49, that can be expected. There’s a hint of the typical black pepper, splash of cinnamon/baking spice there… damn this is underwhelming Overall - I cannot recommend. The price is insane for what you are getting here. I understand that this is a 51/49 Rye.. and a BiB which creates a standard.. but there are far better offerings out there at the price range ($80) I would only recommend this to someone who is infatuated with the Bottled in Bond experience… or if you are doing a blind tasting competition of only BiB whiskeys. Then sure.. have at it. It wont win. -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C922
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 15, 2022 (edited April 12, 2023)Neck pour review Aroma - tremendous. Cherry cola, deep oak, caramal and vanilla. Slight nutty note. As it opens up, im getting more black berries, and spices. Really hope the taste follows the nose Taste - Quite a bit peanut coming through mid-palate and finish on the neck pour. Berries, oak and caramel up front. Vanilla spiking with that nuttiness on the finish. Really enjoying this pour. Overall - I love just how sticky this batch is… it coats the palate extremely well. Sticks to the mid palate and provides that long lasting caramel and oak with alcohol burn. If you can get this for $90 or under..do it -
Elijah Craig Single Barrel Barrel Proof Bourbon (Private Label)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 14, 2022 (edited February 8, 2023)2 oz sample from a friend. Binnys Store Pick Aroma - Whoa.. I’m getting quite a bit red hot cinnamon candy. Wasn’t really expecting that. Big wet oak and vanilla here as well. Picking up some floral notes. A very subtle hint of dark fruit but its way in the back. Taste - Man. This store pick is nice. Huge caramel and vanilla sweetness of front. Very very sweet. Dessert-like. Finish is nice and long. Hints of cinnamon and marshmallow. Dark fruits are more present here than in the nose. Overall - this store pick is outstanding.
