Binnys Store Pick 112.74 Proof 9 year Aroma- Dark heavy notes shine through. Actually smells older than what it is which is awesome. Lot os complexity here and as it opens, new aromatics pop. Really inviting every time nose goes to glass and the balance is wonderful. Dark fruits and even some red apples and cherries come to mind. Old musty oak, black pepper, and a huge blast of vanilla and melted butter. Dark brown sugar and cinnamon. Taste - Getting more of the typical bourbon notes than anything else here. Caramel, vanilla, some cinnamon spice. But there is a weird almost green-like note coming through that I cannot pinpoint. Slight nuttiness. Average viscosity… but a big hug on the finish. There is a very slight bitterness and a little drying on the finish that I’m picking up throwing it just a bit out of balance. Overall - Tale of two tapes for me here. Aroma is amazing, taste just average. Especially for the age. Was hoping for more oak since it was so prevalent on the nose.

4.6 Aroma - Right off the bat… the nose on this is phenomenal. Deep rich oak on this neck pour. Layered with caramel and tons of chocolate. As it opens up, I am getting toasted marshmallow, slight hint of chocolate covered oranges, caramel and maple. Some light dusting of cinnamon and other baking spices here as well. Very complex and an extremely inviting nose on this one. Taste - Nice. Everything from the nose is coming through on the palate. Tons of milk chocolate, caramel.. touch of sweet honey, cinnamon spice, dark fruits.. slight citrus note. Every once in a while I’m getting a spearmint note on the finish. Overall - this is a great pour. Would love to compare this to BRT-01. Only knock is that I wish the finish was a bit longer. It’s got decent viscosity but the finish a a bit shorter than what I was expecting from the mouthfeel.

Smooth Ambler Founders' Cask Strength Series Bourbon Mashbill #2 (2022 Edition)
Bourbon — West Virginia, USA
Reviewed January 19, 2023 (edited April 21, 2023)Aroma -massive brown sugar and a light luxardo cherry note. Cinnamon., green tea and bay leaf add a little of a weird note but overall the nose is nice. Taste - Wow.. corn and alcohol really are the dominant notes here. Really a strong punch of that alcohol. Brown sugar, caramel…touch of cinnamon and green listerine mouthwash. Major down fall is the viscosity. The mouthfeel is just a touch too thin for something at this proof in my opinion. The heat on this one really stands out from middle palate to the finish and it kind of hinders its complexity. In fact… their is a very prolonged and noticeable burn and hug to the finish. Overall - Price is absolutely justified at the $60-70 range. But I feel that this would fall short if compared against WT Rare Breed, Jack SB BP, ECBP, Larceny BP, etc. Just lacks complexity and balance on the palate. I love my Cask Strength and whiskeys >120 proof. But I actually feel that this is just too hot. If the proof was in the 110-116, this offering would probably be incredible. -
Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch A122
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 19, 2023 (edited March 17, 2023)Aroma - Leather and berries. Slight hint of tea leaves and baking spices. Lots of vanilla and oak coming through. Slight hint of chocolate. Taste - chocolate covered peanuts, alcohol soaked dark fruits, hint of baking spices (nutmeg and cinnamon). Comparing A122 to C922 nose… the nose on C922 has more nutty and tons more cinnamon. C922 it more bold on the nose. A122 has more oak and vanilla. Comparing A122 to C922 taste - A122 tons more chocolate. But slightly lacks in other flavor profiles. -
Hardin's Creek Jacob's Well
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 19, 2023 (edited January 26, 2024)Aroma - Red apples, vanilla and wet oak… old and musty. Rye profile shows up with cinnamon and baking spices. Not extremely complex.. but it is a very enjoyable. Taste - wow. Oh man.. that is really freaking good. Just a flavor bomb going off right now and a nice long finish for 104 proof. Old wet oak, and leather.. vanilla, red apples, slight nuttiness, cinnamon. Super rich and decadent. The balance is fantastic. Easy 4.75 for me. -
Aroma - very bright fruit notes with a nice caramel and vanilla backbone. Very complex fruit profile. Really enjoying it. Berries, oranges, apricot/peaches… absolute dessert bomb. Taste - Follows the nose… really nice. Overall - great Irish whiskey…. Just too short of a finish and which it had a bit more body to it. But love how there’s a new subtle flavor every time you come back and take a sip

Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C922
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 19, 2023 (edited September 21, 2023)Aroma - Dark fruits and cinnamon and caramel dominate the nose. Faint hint of baking spices. Taste - wow. Front starts off with a big blast of caramel and alcohol soaked dark fruits. Mid palate is a little bit brighter (citrus) and then the finish is all spice especially cinnamon. Coats the palate very nice and has a long finish. Overall - it’s really freaking good and if you can get it for under $80 it’s an absolute must buy. Sitting around that 4.3-4.4 range but I’ll give it a bump on the star rating since it’s the best offering I’ve had from them to date. -
Aroma - strawberry candy, flat cherry cola… notes of a children’s fruity tooth paste… honestly this is really bizarre and quite off putting aroma to be honest. I’m getting almost no stout notes and all fruit. Hopefully the palate is better than the aroma. Taste - The stout profile is noticeable on the finish. Lots of chocolate on the finish which I enjoy… but its the front and mid palate that ruin this one.. Once again, lots of fruity rye notes. Man I am not a fan of this whatsoever. If NyQuil was made with rye and chocolate…then water added to thin it out… this is what you would get.

Sagamore Spirit Sherry Finish Rye
Rye — Maryland, USA
Reviewed January 19, 2023 (edited June 22, 2023)Aroma - digging it. Lots of dark cherries mixed with bubblegum… some chocolate and lots of brown sugar up front. As it opens up, the rye really shines through adding a ton more complexity. Really great balance here. Taste - First thing that jumps out at me is the balance of this. It really is a terrific blend of the rye spices (cinnamon with slight hint of mint) up front then the finish is tons of daek cherries and chocolate. Every once in a while the rye spice sneaks back in on the finish but it mostly at the front of the palate. Overall - it’s another amazing offering by Sagamore. I do wish it was slightly more viscous and coated the mouth a bit more. The finish isn’t as long as I was hoping for.
