Ben Holladay 7 Year Bottled In Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — M issouri, USA
Reviewed April 3, 2024 (edited April 4, 2024)Aroma - man.. not a lot to report here. Caramel pop corn, buttered rye bread, red apples… Very minimal on the nose. To be honest, I was expecting more depth with than addition year… Taste - caramel, red apples, light oak. Very light on the palate. Overall - man.. I have came back to this bottle three separate times to create a thorough review… It is a very good beginners bourbon. Very delicate on the palate.. doesn’t offer up very strong or overpowering flavors… . There is no finish.. there’s no viscosity.. “smooth” …No Kentucky hug… Blinded this against Barrel Foundation.. and Foundation blew this away (and was $10-$15 cheaper) Blinded this against Bardstown BiB… and Bardstown as clearly better. This is a really good Bottled-in-Bond bottle but I cannot justify the price when I don’t think it’s really that much better than other 100 proof whiskeys or even other BiB offering that are out there. EHT would absolutely annihilate this in blind and cost your around the same (if not less if you have the right connections).. I think Jack Bonded and even OF BiB could even be on par with it as far as quality goes and still be cheaper.. For the Price = 1.00 (so many more flavorful bottles out there that I would rather purchase in the $50-$70) For the Bottled in Bond Experience = 4.5 (yeah this is really good) For the Proof - 3.50 (meh.. its okay.. I think WT101 could blind against this quite well and save you $40) -
Aroma- lots of brown sugar and bubblegum up front.. there’s a nice rye profile here in the form of baking spices that bring a very nice balance to the sweetness. Getting a light touch of bay leaf and even slight tobacco Taste - Bazooka Joe bubble gum…That is wild. I’ve experienced bubblegum before on some ryes but the back of the palate and all throughout the finish is just and awesome amount of bubble gum notes. Front of the palate is your typical notes of vanilla and oak. There’s a slight tropical fruit note here (maybe apricot) and a very light citrus (orange creamsicle) Overall - Probably the most flavorful 100 proof whiskey I’ve ever had to be honest. Drinks a little hotter than 100 proof too (which may deter some). For the price of $50-$55 at 100 proof, this is a 5.0 for me. Again, I’m keeping this in perspective for what it is. I recently bought KC 18 year that sits at 100 proof and priced at $180 or something stupid.. and yet I would prefer this.. It’s more complex and has a longer finish. Viscosity is awesome for 100 proof too. ***Would love to blind this against Rock Hill Farms****

Aroma - smells like I took maple syrup and butterscotch and drizzled it on homemade pancakes. I’m not getting any rye spice presence or notes here at all. Man I hope the taste follows the nose bc this is incredible. Taste - YUP! Follows the nose. Maple, butterscotch and pancake batter. There is a bit more rye presence here midpalate but then caramel at the backend of the palate takes away any residual rye presence. Overall - absolutely one of the best whiskies I have ever had. The finish is maple syrup , caramel and butterscotch that coats the entire palate that never seems to go away.

Middle West Spirits Dark Pumpernickel Rye Cask Strength
Rye — Ohio, USA
Reviewed March 25, 2024 (edited March 26, 2024)Seelbachs Pick Aroma - dark fruits, apple cinnamon cherries, vanilla frosting aromas are all very bold here. Candle worthy Taste - Following the nose 100%.. the alcohol really comes through at the back end of the palate and in the finish.. but once the palate gets acclimated… look the fuck out. This one is just explodes with bubblegum rye with caramel, chocolate, plums and dark berries, vanilla frosting and hints of cinnamon. Massively complex Overall - Tremendous aroma, taste and finish. Viscous with a long finish. Had a Bookers Tagalong pour before this and the finish on this far exceeds the Bookers pour. I feel that some might not like the boldness of this whiskey. It’s extremely dark and full of flavor and the alcohol presence is quite noticeable. However, this is a damn good bottle and something I would absolutely seek out again. It’s extremely unique.. bold yet decadent. The alcohol is bold but it’s a friendly reminder to take it slow.. and enjoy. -
Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye (2023 Release)
Rye — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed March 25, 2024 (edited March 26, 2024)JDSBBP Rye 134.1 Proof 67.05% Bottling Date 12-7-23 Barrel 23-10522 Barrel house 1-09 Aroma - dark fruits with red fruits blended together. Getting the nose into the glass offers a different fruit profile each and every time. Sometime it’s plums, dates, raisins.. sometimes strawberries and raspberries come through. Then there is a brown sugar and raisin bread notes. From time to time I pick up a blue berry cotton candy note.. super weird but I really like it! Alcohol is pretty well hidden here too.. this one could be a dangerous pour Taste - Oh Lord… it follows the nose but with a touch more rye presence in the form of a bubblegum note in the finish. Alcohol presence is really tamed here. The hug is mild considering the proof. I’m gonna black out for sure with this one… I’ll probably wake up tonight on the couch with corn chip crumbles sprinkled all over my shirt and half consumed bag of Reese’s peanut butter cups laying next to me with their wrappers thrown on the floor. Overall - This is exceptional. I reviewed a SBBP Rye last year that was much lower in proof and it was simply a mess. This is bottle though is tremendous. It is not overly complex, but full of flavor and long lasting finish. Must buy if you like high ABV offerings. Would pull the trigger up to $90. -
Aroma - Bazooka Joe bubblegum, slight red-hot candies.. Oh my.. came back and I’m getting root beer float note.. wow that is crazy. Reminds me of much simpler times and it brought me back to a very fond memory of my Grandma. I honestly don’t want to review the nose anymore than this…. I’m so sorry.. it’s too nostalgic for me.. just want to leave it at that and reminince on some amazing childhood moments. Taste - A Very bready-rye. There are some darker notes coming through (berries and molasses).. Still getting a slight root beer note here. Very light hints of mint on the finish. Was hoping for more Overall - Yeah….. it’s good and above average at the price point. Viscosity and finish are extremely thin though which is to be expected at 95 proof… But Wish I didn’t have to go through Seelbach’s to acquire it. Probably wont pull the trigger again on unless I see it on the shelves at MSRP. (Just not worth MSRP+shipping costs along with the the low proof)

Still Austin Single Barrel Cask Strength Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon — Texas, USA
Reviewed March 21, 2024 (edited March 24, 2024)SLB Drinks 116 Proof 58%ABV Barrel #20191220-4 Barrel Dumped 11-29-2023 Aroma - wow.. that barrel, funky oak note is extremely unique and quite bold— like an attic, musty. Some bright red apples and pears come through and some vinous notes as well. As it opens, chocolate covered raisins mixed with leather. Slight red hot hint. Taste - Nice balance of herbal, floral and sugar candied notes. Caramel apples, honey towards the back of the palate. Smoke on the finish. Overall - This is definitely a unique whiskey. The youthfulness is evident though in my opinion and it doesn’t drink like a cask strength whiskey… The finish isn’t very long., the viscosity is minimal, and the proof really isn’t all that noticeable. Getting a lot of Chattanooga Tennessee Whiskey vibes here (which is also 2 years) Worth the purchase???? - Not unless you have extra cash lying around or are looking to try something unique. It is definitely a try-before-you-buy (if possible) Dont get me wrong… it is good… but for $70 on a 2 year aged whiskey is a bit ridiculous. Drinks closer to a $50-$60 in my honest opinion. -
Jack Daniel's Bonded Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed March 21, 2024 (edited March 25, 2024)Aroma - typical notes.. Bananas, cherries and caramel. Love the Jack profile! Taste - Follows the nose… bananas, caramel, cherries.. brown sugars… really sweet but very enjoyable Overall - this isn’t complex, this isn’t mind blowing. But this is extremely well done for a BiB product. The flavors are present are bold.. there is very little “subtle” flavors here in my opinion. The viscosity is quite nice for 100 proof and creates a decent coating on the palate. The finish isn’t long but that’s how most 100 proofers go though. For the price, this is really good.. just wish it was 750 instead of 700 ml bottle -
Aroma - smells like a candy shop… loads of chocolate notes and sugar candies. Very floral and tons of sweet fruits….Candied-apples and mixed berries…cinnamon graham cracker. Some honey-like cereal notes as well. This is an insanely sweet, aromatic whiskey. Very unique. No alcohol or oak presence whatsoever. Taste - Not what I was expecting… As complex the nose was, the palate is polar opposite. It’s still sweet but this almost seems too well balanced as far as tasting notes go.. Not overly complex at all. Caramel, cotton-candy, more sugar candy and slight chocolate notes. All very subtle. The alcohol presence is quite pronounced especially on the back of the palate and in the finish. Overall - Nose is wild and fantastic.. very unique and might not be for everyone especially if you enjoy the traditional flavors of oak, caramel and vanilla. The complexity on the palate is lacking for a BCS product. If you gravitate more towards the traditional flavors then this will be a strong avoid in my opinion. However, if you enjoy exploring whiskies that offer a unique experience, then this might be something worth looking into.
