I didn't looked forward tasting 15yo after I tasted 10yo. I feared which way the ageing process went. And I can now say, the right way. The smell transformed into something smooth, sweet, you can perfectly distinct the difference between molasses and juice product. The taste is neat. Sweet, but with right amount of burn to make it interesting. Less chocolate, more vanilla, also some fruity tones. The burn in mouth is very decent and pleasant. Unlike 10yo, this is fine sipper. I would enjoy something less sweet, but 15yo is very well balanced I don't even mind.

Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 Year Rum
Aged Rum — Jamaica
Reviewed February 26, 2021 (edited June 19, 2021)The 12yo, after experiencing Signature Blend and V/X ones, is the finest of Appletons do far. But it comes with price. 12yo is well rounded, lost the harsh edges, have decent taste, not so sweet, not so burning, not so tangy. it's good. But it is no fun. The smell is barely here, the taste is distinctive but not fun, like the younger blends. This blend is just blend. Overall performance is very good, especially for a price, it sips too well, only with hint of spicy taste, fruits (especially date) and little honey aftertaste, but it is far from "Shit, this tastes gooood!" sips. It leaves funny tingling in back of my mouth after sip. Well, some may enjoy it as sipper, especially those who like rather hash than sweet rums. And some may enjoy it with Coke or in other drinks (distinctive taste of Jamaican style rums surely helps that use). I can understand both. But my conclusion is that cheaper bits from Appleton are more fun to play with, and with sipping qualities - I'm not so impressed, but overall quality is above good and bottle of Appleton 12yo should be part of any rum cabinet. -
Bacardí Reserva Ocho 8 Year
Gold Rum — Puerto Rico
Reviewed February 26, 2021 (edited June 24, 2022)From affordable well accessible bottles of Bacardi this is the only one worth mentioning. With good sale, you can enjoy its distinctive but mild burn and aroma of banana and nuts for decent price. It is well rounded with hints of little burned caramel. Bacardi can't cross my doorstep, but this one is only exception (not counting Oakheart, it's different league). Well, I'm suprised this is decent sipper, but it is. If you wanna hnot expensive and expendable sipper, this is maybe good pick. -
Very nice bottle, but the content is bit underperforming the primal charm. The taste is a bit rougher, but it could be fine sipper if you're not very demanding. But using it in short drinks could be a better way to enjoy it. The dilution will help the taste to rise over that rougher side and mellow down that alcohol pinch in its taste, but it will also provide a more complex taste over the rums that are primarily used for drinks and mixers.

As successor to Barrel Proof, this bottle deserve some attention. To start with bottle itself, it looks very very nice. Such a fabulous bottle! So we are stepping up here form Barrel Proof decent, but beautiful, old school design. As content - the rum - Selección is very delicious. It isn't as perfectly refined as Barrel Proof, but it is hell a lot delicious! Taste is complex, on the sweeter side, with all finesse you'd expect from very good aged rum.

Well, no need to present this wide know rum. Dark ember colour, intensive smell, very sweet, robust, fruity, almost like over-ripe plums. I just love to smell this. And the taste is as the same. Sweet, chocolate, fruit and super mellow. I'm not exactly a fan of the high sugar rums, but I got diplomatico as dessert. Sweet, tasty, flavourful, fruity dessert. I believe the popularity lies here. Diplomatico have no character. It's smooth, sweet and slick as the finest diplomat. And this is it's place in rum world - distinctive diplomatic dessert.
