Kentucky Owl Bourbon (Batch #2)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 18, 2018 (edited May 29, 2021)Great nose, with classic caramel but also floral honey and a slight vegetal note. Strong leather on the palate, sharp and chalky. Cacao nibs as well. Not as sweet as the nose suggests. Dry finish that lingers. Nice warmth. 10/18/1835.0 USD per Pour -

Maker's Mark Cask Strength
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 30, 2018 (edited October 1, 2018)110.7 proof. Muted nose, mostly alcohol. On the palate, smooth for the proof. Some fruit notes, and pleasant bitterness at the end. 9/30/18 So I decided to give this some air time. 13 months later... and not much has changed. Stronger nose than I remember, the ethanol is still there but more fruit this time, and some astringent wood. On the palate, thin at first, turns creamier towards the end. Still light and smooth for the proof, some fruit, some leather. Was hoping the underlying bitterness would decrease, but it's still prominent. 11/6/19 -

New Riff Kentucky Straight Bourbon Bottled In Bond
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 12, 2018 (edited February 16, 2019)Good nose, with strong honey notes, a bit of sandalwood, sour fruit, and baking spice. The palate follows suit - a nice spice kick that lingers all the way, clove honey, light wood, salt, stewed orchard fruit, cinnamon, and bitter chocolate at the end. Tastes a bit like autumn. Let me join the chorus of people saying that this portends good things to come for New Riff. 9/12/1840.0 USD per Bottle -
Jefferson's Reserve Twin Oak Custom Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 9, 2018 (edited March 10, 2021)Wood notes, deep honey, some herbs, char. Good notes. Seems young initially, with musty damp wood and sweet corn. Some floral notes. Then spice kicks in, and baking spice lingers. At the end, cacao nibs and oddly a flash of pineapple. 9/9/18 -
Redemption Wheated Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed September 9, 2018 (edited September 21, 2018)Good nose, with burnt sugar, oak, and surprisingly lots of baking spice. This profile follows on the palate, with a slight floral note. Surprised this has no rye in it. Pleasantly sharp, but it has a smooth aspect as well, with sweetness throughout. Lingering spice and a woodsy bitterness. This is a sleeper. 9/9/1840.0 USD per Bottle
