Glenmorangie 18 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 28, 2018 (edited December 31, 2021)Pies on the nose - lemon merengue and strawberry-rhubarb. Some sour apple creeps in. Also butter and malt. Slight sting on the nose, surprisingly. Very acidic on the palate, with a spiciness that follows through and lingers all the way down. Spice, not heat. It actually numbs the mouth after a while. The buttery pie crust is there. But mostly this is tart, acidic fruit, and malty, no mistaking what kind of whisky this is. Medium sweetness. The sherry influence is light, very light, and straightforward, not funky. Slight bitterness lingers. 8/28/1832.0 USD per Pour -
Fruity and grainy nose, some dough as well. It's actually quite pleasant. Palate mirrors the nose - bananas, cereal, yeast rolls - with additional spice and a hug that I wasn't expecting. Slight bitter note at the end. Sure, this isn't the most complex whiskey, but it's is a fine sipper, no matter what the snobs say. It'll more than do in a pinch, like when on a flight (as I am now). 8/28/18

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 24, 2018 (edited August 26, 2018)HAZMAT, 140.2 proof. Nose is CRAZILY... muted? I was expecting a mack truck but it's pleasant. Caramel, cola, oak and spice. Some musk as well. On the palate, so mellow and smooth. Not true. It's hot, spicy, and numbing, but also sweet and velvety. Some cacao nibs, some nuts, some cola. Fantastic. 8/24/1885.0 USD per Bottle -

Boone County Eighteen33 Straight Bourbon 10 Year
Bourbon — (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed August 24, 2018 (edited June 24, 2020)12 year store pick, Prav Saraff, 113.52 proof. What a great nose. Sweet caramel, oak. That carries over to the palate, with a nice earthy note mixed in. Slight acidic kick, with baking spice. Doughy. This is delicious. 8/24/18 12 year store pick, Modern Liquors, 114.40 proof. Muted nose initially, but what's there is good. After a while it opens up with caramel, maybe a hint of sour fruit. On the palate, tastes like cola. Warmth lingers in the chest. 8/24/18 12 year store pick, Gordon's, 121.88 proof. Smells sweet and oaky. Some fresh linen. On the plate, a flash of spice. Sweet oak throughout. Warm. 8/24/1885.0 USD per Bottle -

Booker's Bourbon Batch 2015-04 "Oven Buster Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 17, 2018 (edited August 26, 2018)I'm expecting something weird, honestly, based on what I've heard. I get some herbal notes on the nose. This is definitely drier than other batches. The spice is nice, lingers on the tongue... forever. The heat is along the lines of Booker's. I think this is a fresh take. I do prefer the classic Booker"s profile, but I can appreciate this. 8/17/18 -
Backbone Bourbon Uncut
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed August 17, 2018 (edited May 8, 2021)Smells like... MGP. Tastes like... young MGP. Not as complex as other MGP juice I've had, and the bitter notes take precedence. The base is there. This feels like it'll develop. Finish especially is good. 8/17/18
