Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Brandy Cask Finish
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 17, 2017 (edited October 24, 2017)Smells of fermented raisins. I know this is a brandy note but I was surprised at the strength of that note until I read that this has been finished for two whole years in brandy casks. I get some hints of baking spice as well. On the tongue, it feels so silky, really a great experience. But before I can relish that for too long, the spices kick in very quickly, and intensely. Lots of wood notes. It finishes with spice and a hint of dark chocolate. Medium to long finish. The brandy influence is there, but nothing like the nose. Not as complex as I was hoping. But still a good pour. 8/17/17 -
Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 16, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Bright and vibrant on the nose, orchard fruit and baking spice. Spicy immediately, which only crescendos into a lingering finish. The Rye is very evident here through the spice and floral notes. There's a balancing sweetness, and the slight bitter woody notes round this out as well. 8/16/17 -
I.W. Harper 15 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 15, 2017 (edited August 1, 2018)Smells pleasant, soapy, nice wood and caramel notes. Floral on the front end, sweetness on the back end. Very smooth. Seems like there are layers there but will need more time to unpack. Looking forward to trying it again later. 8/15/17 Much fuller and flavorful, airtime has really affected the juice. More butterscotch this time around. 9/1/17 This looks like a perfume bottle, so now I smell perfume. Oaky perfume, with caramel. That's how it tastes as well. Smooth and light. Thin mouthfeel. This is a new bottle, so I'm expecting it to open up. Similar to my previous bottle, yet different. 8/1/1860.0 USD per Bottle -
Clyde May's 8 Year Cask Strength Alabama-Style Whiskey
Flavored Whiskey — USA
Reviewed August 10, 2017 (edited July 4, 2018)Baking spices and cinnamon, apples, some caramel. Hot on the tongue, but not tingling, actually still smooth in a way. Some bitterness, but in a burnt sugar kind of way. Interesting, but not as unique or weird as I was expecting. Medium finish. With ice, opens up a bit, an additional peanut note. 8/10/17 -
Old Ezra 7 Year 101 Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 30, 2017 (edited November 12, 2019)Good nose, classic bourbon, fresh and pleasant. No sting given the proof. On the palate, good rush of flavor, wood spice and orange peel, light honey. Decent finish. Heaven Hill profile. Punches above its weight (great budget bourbon). 7/30/17 Could smell this all day. Rice crispy treats with extra butter and caramel, a bit of nutmeg. On the palate, a good kick, wood spice, just enough sweetness, citrus zest, salt, pecan shells, and a lingering warmth. A bit of leather at the end to remind you of its legitimacy. Medium weight, some chew to this. Complex. Great value bourbon. 8/2/17
