Reviewed July 29, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Dark juice. Sherry is strong on the nose. Some vanilla, caramel, and vinegar notes, an interesting combo. Almost a rum like sweetness on the nose. Nice spice on the tongue, some Sherry depth with nuts and funk. 7/29/17 -
Midleton Very Rare Barry Crockett Legacy
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed July 28, 2017 (edited August 1, 2018)Rich on the nose, mild malt, spice, cinnamon bread, cream, apple. Some wood and vanilla hints. Lots of depth here. The legs are thick, coats the glass. Viscous in the mouth. Creamy malt on the tongue, balanced sweetness, coffee and dark chocolate. The spice lingers in a ridiculously long finish. After a few sips there's a fruity aftertaste. Definitely the fullest Irish whiskey I've had. Quite savage. 7/28/17 All of the above still rings true. This time I also get lots of toasted sugar and honey on the nose. Creamy malt and orchard fruit. Slightly more bitter on the front end than I remember, but this is still thick, dense, rich. A bit more citrus than last time. Still a loooooooong finish. Leaves my mouth tingling. 4/21/18 -
Jefferson's Reserve Very Old Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 27, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Wood, vanilla, bright fruit on the nose. Smooth and floral on the tongue, a bit acidic at the end . Slight bitterness and herbs. Wood spice creeps up on you. Pleasant sipper. 7/27/17 -
Some sweet gum on the nose, like Juicy Fruit. After a few minutes there's more vanilla on the nose. This feels syrupy on the tongue. It's sweet (but not as sweet as the nose suggests), with a spice kick. The sometimes odd sherry flavors are there as well, but balanced. The heat is lip numbing. Given how syrupy this feels, the taste is a bit thin at first, but as the initial heat wave wears off this is layered and interesting. But for some reason it leaves me wanting one (any) aspect of the profile to punch through and dominate, but it doesn't. 7/26/17
