Canadian Club Edition Barley Batch
Canadian — Canada
Reviewed February 24, 2019 (edited August 29, 2019)What a unique Canadian expression. There are some dark fruits and honey sweetness, but an almost crazy amount of malt or cereal sugar here. Honestly, it tastes as a grain bin smells. I am taken out to the farm immediately here, and in a way, no other whisky has ever done. I would buy this just for that. So many bottles are just the same or show only a slight variation. This is a love it or hate it bottle. I am on the love side. So cool! -
I like everything about this new Canadian expression, but it just doesn't hit the flavour notes I am looking for in a whisky. It has big fruit notes. Lots of red grape or wine notes, fairly smooth and balanced sugars. The oak takes a fair amount of time to come out but it is there in the finish. If this had a hit of rye or something to give it a bit more spice, I would really like it.

Lot No. 40 11 Year Cask Strength
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed February 24, 2019 (edited March 2, 2019)This is a great pour. Bold, spicey with some balance with sweet caramel and oak. If you enjoy strong whisky, you owe it to yourself to try this out. Is it as good as the 12 year, 2017 release? Not for me. It is missing more of the deep fruit and herbal grassy note that I also like in strong Ryes. -
J.P. Wiser's Hopped Canadian Whisky
Flavored Whiskey — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed February 24, 2019 (edited February 19, 2020)I can't believe I am reviewing a flavoured whisky. That said, this is a tasty expression. The hop adds some citrus and a significant amount of chocolate to this one. Brown sugar, molasses and cream chocolate sugar candy. This is too sweet for a regular pour, but it is a dessert in a bottle if that is what you are looking for. -
This dram takes time to evolve. To really get to know it, it takes several pours in a night. It starts floral and fruity, the palate clean, sweet, with a little candied orange peel. I find it gently coating and pleasant, some cinnamon or spice near the end. The finish is medium; Oak seems older almost musty. A little bitter for the first while too and somewhat drying. Overall this is an OK and gentle Scotch. I think what you paid for it might have a great impact on how much you like it. For me, it was a gift and I can enjoy it. However, I'm not sure it's worth the prices I have seen being asked.

Compass Box Great King St Artist's Blend
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed December 14, 2018 (edited June 23, 2019)I really wanted to like this more. It's good, lots of lemon and vanilla, a little bit of apple. Thankfully the mouthfeel is good and rich and helps even out the dram. The finish is short and overall I am satisfied with the Scotch, but not really impressed. Better than most big brand 12-year-olds, but not amazing. -
Wayne Gretzky No. 99 Ninety Nine Proof Canadian Whisky
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed November 27, 2018 (edited December 22, 2018)Certainly, my favourite of the three released. Full, rich, a little spice, but something else. Grape jelly? Something rich, sweet, and a little oily. This is worth trying and would make a flavourful mix if neat is not your thing.
