Woodford Reserve Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 25, 2018 (edited December 22, 2018)Something eludes me when tasting this. Banana? Spearmint gum? Dull wood? Comes alive a bit with water; more cinnamon comes out and mixes nicely with pepper spice and a drying finish. Also the end of the finish is pleasant, and leaves a good memory. -

Russell's Reserve 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 9, 2018 (edited November 10, 2018)Something sour upfront. However it fades and leaves cinnamon, spice, a little grass, oak, and with time, some butter toffee. The finish is full of wood and walks the line between bitter and spicy. -
Lohin McKinnon Canada Anniversary Limited Edition
Canadian — British Columbia, Canada
Reviewed July 1, 2018 (edited July 28, 2020)I have been looking to open this for some time and it did not disappoint. Upfront the peat is light, but interesting. Maybe a slight medicinal note mixed with honey or cereal sweetness. On the palate lots of baking spices come out; clove, all spice, cinnamon. With time oak notes start to emerge. The peat is there with a gentle earthy note, but never heavy. I found the pepper from Rye did not come out until the finish. This is a complicated, flavorful poor. Perhaps a bit young, but if you like interesting layered whisky, this is a must buy. Cheers! (4.5 Stars) -
Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed June 7, 2018 (edited November 3, 2019)I am not a fan of Jack, but this release is tasty. The sugars are deeper and the oak is strong and stable. On the nose I get cinnamon, allspice wrapped up in corn sugar. Maybe a hint of banana. In the palate the vanilla sweetness comes up first, then the banana or sweet fruit enter with spice coming up. The spice takes over and the finish is a bit bitter, but somehow that balances all the sweet notes up front. All together, this is good whiskey.
