Nose: Delicate smoke, salty sea breeze and earthly tones. Malt and honey are the main attractions. Water adds peat in the mix. Taste: Delicate peat with herbs, cinnamon and tea. Very earthly. Simple and delicious dram. Finish: Hints of smoke and honey. Peat dominates, water makes it even more peaty. Balance: Pretty straight forward whisky. Refreshing stuff!

Nose: Smoke and peat, with peat dominating. Little bit of phenols. Sweet with hints of lemon zest. Water makes it floral. Taste: Burnt toast and peat with lingering spices. Smooth, yet crispy with hints of lemon. Finish: Cinnamon and rough peat. I like it! Balance: Not a complex whisky but good. Gets the same score from me as the 16yo Jura, but I think I like this one a bit more.

Cardhu 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed September 12, 2014 (edited November 26, 2015)Nose: Subtle and sweet. Like a rich fragrance of apples and pears. Nice notes of malted barley. Taste: Apples and pears still dominate with barley in the back. Soft peat and very small hints of smoke. Finish: Starts with sweet notes that turn into dryness. Wee smoke in a fast way. Balance: Smooth and round, well in balance. Easy to drink. Sweetness and dryness meet nicely each other. -

Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Year
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed September 7, 2014 (edited November 19, 2017)Nose: Toffee dominates with dark coffee and hints of smoke. Then comes the dry oak and nice sweet vanilla. Water adds cereal notes. Taste: Dark chocolate, spices and hints of fruity notes. Crispy malt, nuts and oak. Water adds smooth sweetness and some bitterness as well. Finish: Long and simple: spices with hints of dry oak. Balance: Good blended malt with great nose. Versatile dram that manages to utilize all the different malts it has. The diversity of all the different distilleries really comes across nicely. Buy it while you still can. Why oh why did they discontinue it? -
Dalwhinnie 15 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 5, 2014 (edited November 17, 2019)Nose: Floral honey with hints of toffee. Barley hits nicely. Water adds some pepper into the mix. Taste: Tea, malt and crispy citrus. Sugared barley really dominates the palate. Finish: Nutty and malty finish with spices. Water adds bitterness. Balance: Not a complex one but still a great single malt. Malt really is the keyword here. -
Glenfiddich 15 Year Solera Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed September 1, 2014 (edited August 22, 2020)Nose: Sherry with dry citrus and oak. The aromas are okay but unfortunately the best part of this dram. Taste: Sweet yet spicy and dry. Sherry and oak are present but somehow it feels like all the processing seems to cancel each flavor out. There's no character, nothing to really cling on to. Finish: Dried fruits and raisins. Oak is dominating. Oily but not as full of oil as the 12 year old. Balance: Medium body with dry sherry appeal, that just doesn't do it for me. More exotic than Glenfiddich 12 yrs but like their younger dram, without character. -
Nose: Sophisticated sherry with notes of smoke and a good mix of dates, anise and mint. Taste: Honey and malt in a sweet way, with oak in the back. Full and layered body of raisins, oranges and delicate sherry. Finish: Textures of very dark flavors. Dried fruits with dark chocolate, espresso and a little bit of smoke. Balance: Rich and sophisticated dram!

Glenmorangie Nectar D'or 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 23, 2014 (edited August 28, 2019)Nose: Sweet and dry Sauternes with great and fresh barley feel. Some earthly tones as well with green tea influence. Drops of water makes the sweet wine dominate the nose. Taste: Nicely dry with peppery and grassy notes. Sweet wine and fructose feel. Water gets the peppers flowing with more power. Finish: Hints of bitter peaches, like tasting the fur on top of peach peel. Dry oak dominates with spices. Balance: The influence of the wine is huge. And though I'm not a wine drinker myself, I like it. Good whisky and finally, a character from Glenmorangie! -
Glenmorangie 18 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 22, 2014 (edited November 26, 2015)Nose: Fruits with floral notes in the softest way ever. Taste: Caramel with fruity notes. Smooth and floral with hints of perfume of citrus. Finish: Very, very soft. Almost like no finish at all. Soft candy like this, would have been a better experience with a lingering finish. Balance: So easy to drink, that you're having Breakfast at Tiffany's. Rich with a minimal finish.
