First time trying an islay single malt. Very good. Smooth, smoky, tastes and smells like fire burning on wood. I'm used to vanilla/caramel/toffee/butterscotch/fruits notes, so smoky tastes and noses take time to get used to and also require balance between what i'm used to to keep taste buds open to a wide range of tastes.CUT by Wolfgang Puck

Macallan 18 Year Sherry Oak Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 25, 2017 (edited January 18, 2020)Great whisky. Very smooth. Wonderful flavors of caramel, sherry, port, fruit, and a little smoke. -
Suntory came up with a perfect name of Harmony. Harmony perfectly reflects the sweet and floral nose and taste of this whisky. Perfect starter whisky. Nikka should take notes on how to make non age statements close to or on the level the age statement predecessors were as did Suntory did with this whisky replacing the Hibiki 12.

Nikka Taketsuru 17 Year Pure Malt
Blended Malt — Japan
Reviewed September 17, 2017 (edited May 2, 2018)Brilliant and smooth to perfection. Varying aromas and palates from menthol, smoke, spices, and caramel. I rank this 3rd in whiskies I've tried, behind the Yamazaki 18 and the Yoichi 15.
