Port Charlotte SC:01 2012
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 30, 2023 (edited May 12, 2024)To begin, we get some sea salt caramel, oak, wet hay, bits of vanilla, leather and white pepper, then getting some heavier oak, dried fruit, tinges of apricot and the rush of peat. the finish has a lighter fruit note, peat, mild brine. The finish is long and rich, withinimal ethanol burn. Fantastic islay, reminds me of the ardbeg 13 harpys tale but with more complexity. -
A little disappointed. Vanilla, caramels and honey on the front with some very mild oak and hay, applewood and mild tinges of smoke. The finish is short to medium length full of honey, smoke and sweet apple wood. For the price im not thoroughly impressed. Its pretty light and mild on the smoke. This is not a rye either which is very obvious from the flavor. A bit lack luster imo for the price but a reallt easy drinking whiskey from my POV. Unique but not unique enough.68.0 USD per Bottle

Fresh green agave thay translates to a more roasted agave. Dashes of vanilla, slightest hints of caramel. Hints of green agave come back with a finish rich i. White pepper. I love tapatio, its got a label that terrifies the unassuming tequila drinkers but the ones in the know will understand. Great quality repo

Boone County Founder's Reserve Amburana Cask Finish Bourbon
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed December 27, 2023 (edited June 8, 2024)A heavier almost malty note in this whiskey from what i could tell under the amburana. Burnt brown sugar, heavy oak, hazle nut, cinnamon and slight barrel char. the finish is medium length with a classix amburana finish that leave brown sugar on the tongue with moderate spice. so hard to pick a favorite amburana. -

El Tesoro Mundial Collection: Laphroaig Edition (2023 Release)
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed December 22, 2023 (edited February 3, 2024)Sweet roasted agave that starts to transform into some light lime, mild oakiness, mild minerality, salinty, bits of leather, and some green herbal agave/ medicinal scotch notes. The peat begins to build at this point but isnt overwhelming in any way. Its noticeable as peat smoke but is dances playful along the finish. The finish is medium to long with hints of vanilla, smoke, and mineral. this definitely feels like a younger anejo but everything about it is done masterfully. The saline and smoke from laphroaig adds a nice extra layer of complexity while still being effortless sipping with interesting notes.160.0 USD per BottleSpec's Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods -

Doc Swinson Exploratory Cask Bossa Nova Bourbon Finished in Brazilian Amburana Casks
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed December 20, 2023Average doc swisnson notes, but this one has an overwhelming cinnamon/baking spice note closer to the finish. Little dashes of vanilla and maple right before a medium to long finish that mildy hot. Not sure how i feel about amburana casks -
Bottle 108, 62.1% ABV. Short lasting carmel, hints of vanilla, then Waves if heavy oak, char, cherry wood, and dashes of brown sugar. The finish is a bit hot but has alot of baking spice and oak near the finish. Texas whiskey is a bit hit or miss for me alot of the time but this one was pretty great for the price (46 with my case pricing). for a single barrel of that proof i was pleasantly suprised. And even more surprisingly i think it shines greatly on ice. im not ashamed to support a distillery in texas that uses an ryeless mashbill. High West Campfire (Discontinued)
Blended American Whiskey — (bottled in Utah), Multiple Countries
Reviewed December 17, 2023 (edited December 18, 2023)Vanilla and caramels dance on the toungue before some herbal rye notes start emerging, slightly green, but savory. oak and cereal also come along in the middle right before some tofeee and fig. the finish is laced with moderate peat and has some oily rye notes lingering around. The finish is medium to long, peppery and peaty. Its probably one of my fav bottles to come from high west that ive had. Blends peated malt and american whiskeys wonderfully. Will have to try the newer verision. Shout out to chris for the generous gifting of the bottle!
