First intro into anything from new riff, i get caramel, black walnut, some hints of vanilla, herbality, dryish oak and hay. The finish gets some more oak and the rye spice kicks in which is moderate and has a moderate dill/herbal finish. There is some mildy smoky notes i picked up too which i enjoyed as a scotch fan. New riff rye BiB is a got to in my book. Great price and excited to try the single barrel

Clase Azul Mezcal Durango
Mezcal Joven — Durango, Mexico
Reviewed November 24, 2023 (edited November 25, 2023)Dashes of vanilla begin that later translate to some roasted agave, mild minerality, mild smoke, a bit of lactic notes similar to cupreata but more subdued. The finish has some of that lactic note, smoke and minerality and is medium length. This mezcal wasnt too mind blowing, although im not familar with the flavours of agave durangensis. clase azul is not a go to, but glad to have a taste of this agave species. im sure bozals is just as good with a reasonable pricepoint. -
Straight apple notes off the bat, little brown sugar sweetness along with various mixed berries, light oak, and honey. The finish is sweet, light with a dash of tart, and is short to medium length. This is my first real calvados and i found it pleasant but definitely lacking some more rich and robust cognac notes im used to. its great but personally misses my palette a little bit. But i know nothing of calvados

Glen Moray Limited Edition Rye Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 24, 2023 (edited May 18, 2024)A very light whiskey despite being 100 proof, you start with some toffee/caramel notes, then some honey, floral and fruit (more like apricot and apple) then some drier oak, hay, cereal and light bits of leather. The finish is a bit spicier than the original glen moray, with a longer finish. it was a decent release from glen moray, i think i got it for 25 dollars with my specs key and case pricing but its a good malt for the price. Nothing to blow your socks off but its got a better ABV and finish than the original -
Old Forester Single Barrel Bourbon Barrel Strength
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 23, 2023 (edited February 6, 2024)Incredibly robust, dashes of brown sugar are so briefly tasted before it reveals notes of pecan wood, leather, wood char, mild caramel, barbaque smoke, and roasted pecan or almond. the finish reveals some brown sugar along with a long and dry pepper finish. the more i sip the more i understand. Its pretty hot but packs a wallop for someone who likes more earthy tones. -
Basil Hayden Dark Rye
Other Whiskey — Multiple Countries
Reviewed November 18, 2023 (edited November 20, 2023)Berries to start off, some dark pruney notes start to evolve to mild oak, hints of caramel, a nice prominent vanilla note along with some brown sugar notes. the finish is a bit odd, sort of watery but has a familiar rye spice that last quite long but isn’t unpleasant in the least. An alright sipper for a good price (35) for anyone looking for a sweet but spicey, fruity rye. -
Azuñia Black Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed November 11, 2023 (edited November 12, 2023)Immediate rich roasted agave sweetness that blends into some nutty notes, moderate oak, hints of molasses, dark berries and then start to introduce a robust oak and bourbon char note near and in the finish. Finish is medium to long with baking spice and a nice sweet agave resides till the end. Fantastic anejo, im highly impressed and will be interested in getting a bottle of this. i can see this getting alot of bourbon guys into tequilas -
Very light cereal, dashes of vanilla later becoming light oak, robust barn hay, with a medium to long finish of vanilla with a dry earthy peat. Id compare this to the ardbeg ten although this one seems softer and more refined, many more vanilla notes than ardbeg would have. id highly reccomened trying this for the price!50.0 USD per BottleSpec's Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods
