Journeyman Distillery Corsets, Whips & Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Michigan, USA
Reviewed December 12, 2023 (edited January 28, 2024)Single grain 100% wheat whiskey. so damn soft and smooth. Its 117 proof should not be feared by anyone afraid of higher proofs. This is a VERY smooth drinking whiskey which is a term i typically despise. There is brown sugar to start, caramel and toffee following with some mild oak, hay and cereal notes. The finish is short but nice with a prominent brown sugar and mild spice. Im so impressed with this whiskey. It’s absolutely incredible and i must find a bottle after this tasting. While its not a bruiser which im normally used to, its a fantastic change up especially with the mash bill. -
Immediate caramel sweetness, some vanilla notes, unique dashes of toasted coconut, cinnamon and brown sugar then the oak comes along adding some tannin, finally finishing with a baking spice and mild oak, medium to long finish thats effortless after the first sip. fanatastic whiskey, maybe even one of my fav penelope releases. Much different from their four grain releases.

Ardbeg Anthology: The Harpy's Tale
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 11, 2023 (edited December 12, 2023)warm and inviting on the toungue, there is a nice cereal notes, a dash of brine, salted caramel, lemon zest, dashes of grilled pinapple and apricot sweetness. then comes a big rush of peat, which mingles greatly with the sweet sauterenes notes. the finish has a nice peppery medium length duration with lots of peat and reisdual sugary sweetness. its almost like ugg with a more white, brighter fruit note. I enjoy the older whiskey age as well. Good release in my book!135.0 USD per Bottle -

Plantation Xaymaca Special Dry
Gold Rum — Jamaica
Reviewed December 5, 2023 (edited December 6, 2023)First time trying a real jamaican rum so please bare with me. theres some dashes of brown sugar to begin but thats the last time your gonna taste it. Next notes are some dried fruit, intense bannana, oak, leather and spices. The finish comes along as dry, mildy spice with a funk i can imagine is what rum drinkers call “hogo”. Hogo imo tastes like mildly rotten fermenting fruit. Its a unique note that im not sure if i like. Ill make another review once im finished with the bottle27.0 USD per BottleSpec's Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods -
First intro into anything from new riff, i get caramel, black walnut, some hints of vanilla, herbality, dryish oak and hay. The finish gets some more oak and the rye spice kicks in which is moderate and has a moderate dill/herbal finish. There is some mildy smoky notes i picked up too which i enjoyed as a scotch fan. New riff rye BiB is a got to in my book. Great price and excited to try the single barrel

Clase Azul Mezcal Durango
Mezcal Joven — Durango, Mexico
Reviewed November 24, 2023 (edited November 25, 2023)Dashes of vanilla begin that later translate to some roasted agave, mild minerality, mild smoke, a bit of lactic notes similar to cupreata but more subdued. The finish has some of that lactic note, smoke and minerality and is medium length. This mezcal wasnt too mind blowing, although im not familar with the flavours of agave durangensis. clase azul is not a go to, but glad to have a taste of this agave species. im sure bozals is just as good with a reasonable pricepoint. -
Straight apple notes off the bat, little brown sugar sweetness along with various mixed berries, light oak, and honey. The finish is sweet, light with a dash of tart, and is short to medium length. This is my first real calvados and i found it pleasant but definitely lacking some more rich and robust cognac notes im used to. its great but personally misses my palette a little bit. But i know nothing of calvados
