Far more sweet than anything else, this comes across as slightly one-note-ish. Fun cake/creme brulee aspect still worth trying.

Interesting spices on nose, taste reveals traditional rye, mint(?), and subtle fruits. Was not sold on this at first but the range of the spirit kind of won me over.

Just a sample yet this feels underappreciated. Bread, burnt, spice, some very light corn like sweetness. Just a solid dram if you are looking for a non-bourbon American offering.

Versus the notable Islay legends, this falls short. Still, there may be some value here, and the dominant peat/medicinal qualities are supported by an alluring caramel, nougat like aspect which will hold your interests. Not exciting though not without merits.

Always seeking "entry level" or "gateway" offerings. And though I'm not sure bourbon even needs it, given its popularity, the smooth and clean Old Elk may be a great choice for said "gateway" - especially at mid-level price point. Fruit (pear, banana) with light black pepper on taste... and that sweeter finish surely could win over some bourbon skeptics.

Better than average Canadian, though it just has one chord. The lack of refining character is the most significant shortcoming.

Favorable cost but admittedly, Flaviar pointed out stewed fruit tasting note. I do get that, and holy hell is that flavor a bit off-putting.

Odd yet intriguing earthy & grassy components on nose. Rye, pepper as one would predict. Worth trying even if price may be a touch high for what it is.

The delicate nature, along with it's reasonable cost, strongly suggests a great introduction to Scotch. There is just enough subtlety, while the dram is still completely approachable, that this would be a great way for someone to dip their proverbial toes in the water. Butterscotch, honey, apple, banana all share some time.
