Appleton Estate Signature Blend Rum

Boring, a bit hot. Not that sweet for a rum. Plantation and Goslings are better at the same price point.

Sweet, fruity, molasses and tropical to round it out. This is just such a good Rum and it adds character to every drink I make with it. For the price this should be rated much higher.

On the nose, blackstrap molasses, overripe bananas (a bit of banana candy too!), and a touch of baking spice (mostly clove). The palate gives more of the funky molasses and banana character, caramelly, with warm vanilla and a dry wood finish. An affordable and widely available rum that adds a lot of character to cocktails and is totally drinkable neat. This eggnog season, we’ve been preferring American whiskeys (chiefly ryes) that bring more barrel spice to cut through the heavy dairy, in lieu of the (for some) traditional rum. Adding a couple dashes of aromatic bitters with the rum can help bring that extra complexity to a rum and eggnog build. Cheers and happy holidays!
