Batavia Arrack van Oosten

2.8.22 Served: Neat, rocks glass. Bottle Open: Unknown (bar) Aroma: Raw chicken, burnt sugar, sugarcane juice. Flavor: Pretty similar to the flavor. Savory and sweet with a light body. Very spicy, partially due to the proof, but spicy like horseradish.

Nose is very rum-like: overripe bananas, sugarcane, along with some notes I associate with amazake and some twice-cooked crusty rice. Taste hits me out from left field. Starts off slightly smokey, a bit briny, very BBQ-like but more akin to an Asian BBQ sauce instead of one we're used to in the western palate. Reminded me most of this BBQ "sauce" made with fried dried shrimp. Also detected some dried loquat in there, along with vegetal, Asian salted and preserved greens in there. Finally, finishes bizarrely like a funky rum. It's overall very rummy, except everything in the middle which is a huge adventure. Very interesting!

Could not really find a use for this....A flavor profile I just could not get down with....
