I didn’t car for the nose much at all. It brought to mind the manicure salons in shopping malls, very strong chemical smell. Taste is better, lots of fruit, specifically tart apple peels, but its well hidden behind a very astringent, burnt toast flavor that is an aquired taste. I cant decide if it spent too long in the barrel or not long enough. Very different than most of the whiskey on the shelf and thats a refreshing change!
Having scotch as the base makes this a great complex bottling. Enjoyed the slight smoke, vanilla, honey, lemon zest, and apple taste profile. Nice moderate body and finish. Slight harshness due to the aging. Overall really enjoyable, especially if you are a scotch drinker.
Purchased a 50 ml bottle, and glad I didn’t have to pay for a 750 to be disappointed. Definite tart green apple notes on the nose that somewhat carry over to the palate. On the palate there is a harsh artificial/medicinal note that almost completely overshadows the tart fruitiness. The finish is astringent and hotter than 92proof should be.
Nose: Delightful sweet notes, ripe pitted fruits, gentle smokiness, honey, extremely slight burn.
Nose after swirl: Cider cider cider! Fruity sweetness gives way to a much stronger smoke note.
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, juicy! Obvious cider undertones, much smokier on the tongue, toasty cocoa, dried stone fruit, gentle maltiness.
Finish: slightly dry, fruity sweetness gives way to long-finishing smoky malt.
Surprisingly sweet (i didn’t read the label notes about the cider cask until AFTER I’d tasted it). This works as a changeup to any regular whiskies in the bar.
