I previously had a bottle of the blanco. I liked the profile, but it was all so subtle and mild. Still, I hear great things about this brand, so I'm looking forward to trying this one too and I'm hopeful that I will like it better.
N: Not a promising start. It's a very faint nose. I mainly get some light musty cardboard. There's a hint of brine.
P: This is much more substantial than the palate led me to fear. It isn't big and full of flavor, but it works. There's musty cardboard leading into mild wood, pepper, some minerals, slightly sweet brine, a reference to cinnamon, a faint hint of mint, and something mild that's vaguely fruity like apples, underripe bananas, and lime. at points, some rich, sweet, somewhat savory stewed agave comes through, but it is never a very full flavor.
F: A tad drying. Brine, minerals, a little mint, some lime, sweet and savory stewed agave.
- Conclusion -
The balance and complexity here are good, though I'd personally like some more oomph. This is more refined but less full than Partida Blanco. Putting them side by side, they're closer than I'd expected.
What this definitely loses to though is Tapatio Blanco. It's quite clear that even the mild mannered Tapatio Blanco has more oomph than this does. Still, this isn't that far behind.
But Próspero Blanco isn't that far behind this either. I think I need to go for either a 14 or a 15 for this. Actually, it could be a 16. I'm leaning toward a 15. A 15 it is.
