Glenmorangie A Tale of Cake

Smells like rum cake with vanilla, apples, honey, butter and winter spices. Tastes like a really light Glenmorangie egg nog, it’s semisweet, relatively thick and buttery for a whiskey with spiced rum, vanilla, honey, tropical fruit and winter spice notes. Finishes bitter-sweet with almonds and winter spices.

Sweet, tart and spicy. Not a scotch guy yet but can forsee it in the future

NOSE Dried orchard fruit, overripe apricots, citrus sponge cake, vanilla fondant and subtle spice, malt and tropical fruit notes. Not super complex, but elegant and buttery with strong fruity notes that remind me of the Nectar D’ Or in a way. PALATE Malt, dried orchard fruit, citrus sponge cake, vanilla, malt, roasted nuts, nutmeg and some touches of oak, copper and yellow raisins. Based on the name, I was expecting more cake. I get some, and it’s nice, but it’s not a super cakey profile, more fruity. FINISH Med-long -> Fruit, oak, citrus and a nice bit of waxy vanilla as it fades out.

The nose is smoothly sweet with barley, green apple, honey and touches that remind you of sweet wine. Charred oak and buttery vanilla mix themselves in along with a hint of dry flowers. The palate fills the mouth all the way to the corners with a burst of peppercorn followed by a wave of malt, charred oak and green apple and with sweetness, with an equal tartness and somewhat of a bitterness. It’s kept from being overly sweet and still retains a strong identity of being a Glenmorangie. The finish is medium and slightly smokey with a lingering sweet oakiness that covers the mouth.

I’m a sucker for everything Glenmorangie bottles. This one is no different. Sweet and fruity. Light fruits and sugary. Very nice with a little water.
