Lot No. 40 Dark Oak

I like this one. Definite oakiness throughout, which you'd expect from the "double barrelling" process. Somewhat sweeter than average, presumably due to using charred barrels. Caramel and vanilla flavours. No smokiness though despite the charring. I find it a nice sipping whiskey, enjoy it on a bit of ice so that it opens up a bit as the ice melts.

Long time L40 fan here, was not disappointed with the Dark Oak. Nose: spice, vanilla, hints of chocolate and fruit Palate: cinnamon spice, vanilla Medium finish to conclude this delicious sipper.

Nose: caramel, milk chocolate, candied apples, maple. Entry: caramel, toffee, cake, peaches. Finish: spicy, tons of oak, cinnamon. Will definitely buy again. It's like the rye version of Weller Reserve

I bought a bottle of Lot No. 40 Dark Oak, but found it too dry for my tastes. Fortunately, I had a bottle of Knob Creek Rye which I found too sweet. Ralfy, on his Youtube site had a segment where he talked about blending similar whiskey's. So I blended Lot No. 40 Dark Oak with Knob Creek Rye on a 50/50 formula and found an excellent whiskey. One was too dry, the other too sweet. I am pleased with the results.
