Nikka Whisky From the Barrel

For the price, it is very good! I like it – a lot. One of those that I’ll make sure to get a new bottle of as soon as I empty the one I have, probably doing so until I die. The nose is sweet toffee, a little floral and a touch of smoke. Somewhat strong on the nose if you don’t put in water. The taste is caramel for days on end but is nicely balanced and complex. The ABV is generous and allows for a hard kick and good finish. Really nice whisky this one!

Notes of cedar wood and light smoke early on the nose with baking spices and an underlying vanilla, malty sweetness. The initial nosing notes are reminiscent of walking into an old wooden cabin. The cedar notes arrive first on the palate. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and a slight hint of clove come in mid palate with a pleasant bitterness of the cedar lingering with vanilla sweetness and spice through to the finish. A light wiff smoke mingles with the wood and spice on the fairly lengthy finish.

Overpowering first hit but its complexity and lingering teste will make you want more of this memorable dram.

Blended exotica captures a cornucopia of flavors and leaves me in slight wonderment each time I drink it. The heat of the whiskey (51.4%) doesn't even come close to overwhelming it. A strong apple nose and a creamy mix of oak and caramel remains light in the mouth while hinting of mysterious unknown spices.

Fruity and malty up front with a cereal malty flavor following. Maple syrup and stone fruits on the finish. Overall onion my favorite Japanese whiskys
