Pusser's Rum Original Admiralty Blend (Blue Label)

Holy burnt sugar atop creme brûlée batman. It’s so overpowering that nothing else surveys the trip to my nostrils. Thin on entry and sweet cola, then a flash of ethanol, then back to the creme brûlée with charred sugar top. Maybe some funky banana but buried deep. This is different in that it’s like the charred molasses was scraped from the still and added back to the final product. Too one-note for my liking but the charred sugar is a pleasant departure from bottom shelf Bacardi. Might experiment with this a bit - could go well with Woodford reserve double oaked and a dash of four roses single barrel...

I haven't tried this straight yet, but in a Jungle Bird it was delicious. For the price, it's amazing, and I actually prefer it to some more expensive rums (at least in cocktails so far, I'm sure sipping it would be a different story).

Nose - molasses, overripe banana, toffee, almond, coffee liqueur, leather, tobacco, rotting fruit funk, rubber cement, allspice, clove, grape, sweet cream, mild ethanol burn. Taste - creamy vanilla, apple juice, molasses, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, clove, cardamom, orange, lemon, grape, sweet tobacco, leather, overripe banana, less funk than on the nose, sweet cream, moderate alcohol bite, finishing relatively quickly with fading overripe, sour fruit, baking spice, cardamom, and vanilla flavors. Overall, this is really solid. There’s a bit of sourness on the finish that I don’t particularly like, but the flavors blend together very well without being overly sweet like some other dark rums.

Positive reviews and wanting to expand liquor horizons prompted this purchase a while back. Poured neat, nose has......wow this is very different from any whiskey that's for sure. Im getting some unique notes. Burnt popcorn with butter on it, agave juice, blackstrap molasses, incense and the inside of one of those crank pencil sharpeners. Complex and morphing I quite like it. Deep dark color leads palate of smoky caramelized brown sugar, orange peel, semi sweet chocolate chips, vanilla extract and seasoned birchwood. Finish is drying wood, charred sugars,mild anise and fading butterscotch. Excellent balance of sweet and smoky char notes. This is fantastic liquor. I didn't realize rum could be so rich and robust with such diverse flavors but this delivers in spades. Im gonna have to explore rum now for sure. No doubt this would mix great too but its worth drinking straight. I don't have a lot of experience with rum but I know a quality spirit when I taste it......86/100.....Easy repurchase and amazing value at around $20-25
