Redbreast 21 Year

Sweet, honeyed, fruity, mildly spicy. A bit too smooth. More kick would’ve been nicer. Sweet lingering finish though

I’ve now passed my two week mark for my second vaccine shot and looks like this will be my 100th tasting, so time to open up something special to celebrate. The nose starts with a blast of sherry cask with chocolate covered raisins then the bourbon cask comes in with bourbon soaked cherries leading to tropical fruits of dehydrated mangoes, pineapple, peaches in syrup, shortbread cookies and vanilla gelato transitioning to spices of cinnamon, ginger, leather and old polished oak with light ethanol burn. The taste is a medium mouthfeel starting with the bourbon and sherry casks mixing together to create a cherry and grape caramel explosion that transitions to tropical fruits of mangos, papaya, pineapple, leading to powdered sugar coated bubble gum and vanilla pound cake finishing with ginger, cloves, the slightest hint of oak and light chili pepper spice. The finish is medium length with chocolate covered raisins, mangoes, pineapple, leather, vanilla gelato, shortbread cookies, ginger, cloves and medium chili pepper spice. This is a very complex old whisky that takes time to open up and slowly unveil all of the layers of flavors coming from the mix of those bourbon and sherry casks. Nose: a triumph of tropical fruits, mangoes, papayas, but also plums and local berries. Palate: luxurious, very strong papaya, berries drowned in sherry, spices, dark chocolate. Final: here too wonderful, confirms papaya, dark chocolate and sherry, very long, making the experience memorable. I have no doubts in saying that to date (30.4.2021) together with Glengoyne 25yo and Bruichladdich Black Art 07.1 this is in the 3 best whiskys, indeed whiskey in this case, never drunk. True masterpiece. Rating 5.00 (only because you can't give more) __________________________________________________________ Naso: un trionfo di frutti tropicali, mango, papaya, ma anche prugne e frutti di bosco nostrani. Palato: lussurioso, papaya fortissima, frutti di bosco annegati nello sherry, spezie, cioccolato fondente. Finale: anche qui meraviglioso, conferma papaya, cioccolato fondente e sherry, lunghissimo, rende memorabile l’esperienza. Non ho dubbi nel dire che ad oggi (30.4.2021) insieme a Glengoyne 25yo e Bruichladdich Black Art 07.1 questo è nei 3 migliori whisky, anzi whiskey in questo caso, mai bevuto. Vero capolavoro. The result is almost a near masterpiece of Irish whiskey that can be tributed to its superb cask selection. A fantastic whiskey! Color: Rich Auburn One of the best Irish whiskeys I have ever tasted. Redbreast 21 full of depth and complexity from nose through the finish. The box is made of wood with the story of the whiskey inscribed upon it. Although you can read about it, the tasting of this wonderful dram tells its own story. The nose is full of complexity with rich aromas of gingerbread spice, mahogany wood, sherry, Christmas cake, caramel and other subtle baking spices. The palate intensifies with full-bodied notes of oak spice up front, then fades giving way to dried red fruits, rich sherry, cinnamon, all spice, and vanilla. The finish is long with lingering fruity notes, continuing spices, and oak, leaving you fulfilled.
