I opened my bottle last night and tasted this side by side with Rittenhouse. Sazerac has the typical rye notes on the nose. I got some citrus notes along with leather and the alcohol. The palate is similar to the nose. I tasted some orange along with the spicy rye notes. I thought it was a tad thin. It’s a good rye but not one I will go out of my way to find again. It’s scarce around here. Rittenhouse was a little more complex in my opinion. Both are good but are very different.
The aroma has a sharp twang of rye and mustard seed along with vanilla and oak. The flavor is spicy and sweet, flavors of rye, orange peel, and oak. Plenty of heat on the tongue, has a dry finish.
7/10. How is this a sub-$30 bottle? Excellent pour. Drinks more like a bourbon than a rye. Big oaky vanilla flavor with a small amount of heat. Smooth finish. Big Fan
