Tyrconnell 16 Year Single Malt

The initial nose was a disappointment along with the first sip. All I got was vanilla. After about 5 minutes I took a second sip and it opened up. Each subsequent taste offered a little more. The finish was a little short for me and the mouth feel did not have the creaminess you would expect from a pot still whisky. Overall it’s not bad but for the price I think you can do better.

I get oak and vanilla taste notes. It starts off sweet but there's almost a stony, metallic note that comes up from behind and cancels the sweetness. This was a gift from a friend who had it in his bar for a while, so perhaps it wasn't stored in the proper conditions. It's okay but I don't enjoy this one straight; I think it will be used for whisky sours and the like.
