Willett Family Estate Small Batch Rye 4 Year

Opened this to celebrate Nick’s birthday. Just as good as I remembered it tasting during our KBT trip. 9/24/22 - Had a chance to taste this again during our RWT event a few weeks back. Sweet vanilla on the nose, nice mouthfeel and a spicy warming finish. Turned out to be one of the favorites at the tasting. Elevated to a 5.0 rating. Very good stuff!! Also, a very cool place to visit. Their distillery was one of our favorite stops during our Kentucky Bourbon Trail trip this spring. In addition to the beautiful setting and friendly staff, they offer a unique twist on tasting their spirits. Instead of taking a tour and then sitting down to do your tasting, you do both at the same time. That's right, you're drinking whiskey while you tour the grounds. Genius. Highly recommend checking them out if you get the chance!

Excellent drop. Nose is maple syrup, sweetness along with spice notes and some heat. Taste maintains some sweetness with caramel / vanilla, lots of dark cherry or licorice, clove, with notes of oak, pepper, and peat at the finish. Oily

It’s very unique, but not really my jam. I do appreciate what is happening in this glass. There is a lot of cinnamon and even more nutmeg on the finish. It has a barn, hay, funk that hits you in the face at first, but the Christmas spice finish is quite enjoyable. I like it more than I hate it, but this is definitely a “try before you buy” whiskey.

5.0 stars - Spectacular; 750 ml bottle Second review, same bottle. The last glass is just the same as the first. Many months and lots air have not changed this one. This is straight up black magic. I am not sure what Willet is doing, but they better guard their secrets better than Coke guards their recipe. I am going to KY soon. Mostly for some family rest and relaxation. But on the way back we are doing the tasting tour at Willet. Hopefully some of this is in stock and we get to taste a few more family estate bottles.

Solid Rye. Very nice mouth feel, just a little oily. I get some licorice and Dill. Well balanced.

Lots of vanilla, apples notes
