Appleton Estate 12 Year Rare Casks
Aged Rum — JamaicaReviewed May 19, 2023An absolute delight! Appleton strikes again with molasses, sandalwood, and marmelade. For the price, a steal.
Hibiki Japanese Harmony
Blended — JapanReviewed December 21, 2022 (edited February 3, 2023)Another Japanese disappointment. While well rounded, this Jack of all trades does not earn his keep. If I wanted a cheap, diverse blender, I’d hit up Johnny Blue or Ghost. Sayonara.
Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USAReviewed July 9, 2022 (edited July 10, 2022)Very mediocre. Sickly sweet with a oddly chewy mouthfeel. Think Clynelish but bad. Sticky and sweet: bad candy. How the hell did this win awards? Atleast it’s smooth.
Woodford Reserve Kentucky Derby 148
Bourbon — Kentucky, USAReviewed June 26, 2022I very good showing from WR. A charger with more spirit than the usually charmingly demure stable. Bursting forth with a chewy cherry note with a trot into maple syrup and picking the gait up into an oak that leaves no splinters. A medium heat, but don’t let it pass you by. For this price, a sure bet.
Glenlivet 12 Year Double Oak
Single Malt — Speyside, ScotlandReviewed June 26, 2022I judged this far too harshly. A solid offering of classic speyside at an unbeatable price. The story and the look Just sell it too. Roll softly, gentle brook.
Teeling Single Malt Irish Whiskey
Single Malt — IrelandReviewed June 23, 2022Vaguely interesting. It runs hotter than most Irish but the strongest hit is a vaguely flour-y note, (see Glenrothes Vintage for the best version) and a vague dried fruit. Pretty good.
Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey
Blended — IrelandReviewed June 23, 2022Pretty bland and tasteless. A lonesome sweet note in a sea of bland.
Teeling Single Grain Whiskey
Single Grain — IrelandReviewed June 16, 2022Very well done! Quickly becoming my favorite Irish brand, this showing has a deceptively sweet nose, owing to the Cab aging no doubt. We’re quickly swept into the classic Irish twang surrounded by a veil of oat and prune (old timer’s breakfast) before a medium body end that burns just right. Slainte!
Balvenie DoubleWood 17 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, ScotlandReviewed June 11, 2022 (edited October 30, 2022)Theee strikes and you’re out Balvenie. Crap.
Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, ScotlandReviewed June 11, 2022 (edited September 20, 2022)This is shit. Worst Scotch I’ve had. Compares unfavorably to GlenLovet Rum experiments. Two thumbs down.
