Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch #2
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed February 2, 2021 (edited December 22, 2021)Last dram Nose: manure, sea air, salt, smoke, very farmy Body: full, punchy, viscous Palate: salt, dirt, manure, lots and lots of peat, an underlying sweetness, a classic Springbank funk to it Finish: long, mouth-coating, eviscerating I have fallen in love with this dram, has either evened out over time or I’ve just gotten used to it. I want another bottle! -
Last dram Nose: fig chutney, Brie, oatcake, grapes, cinnamon, smooth—no big spirit burn Body: full bodied, spirited, slightly tannic, spicy Palate: big fruit, a bit zesty, orange peel, cherry, pear, fig, date, some cocoa/dark chocolate Finish: long, bold, tingly, woody A bottle I’m sad to see go! It’s held up for nearly two years very well.

Nose: Prosecco, green grapes, big white wine note, floral, green apple, a bit of botanics—maybe some juniper and definitely some anise, nutmeg/clove, green grape juice, mulled wine spices, canned peaches, cloudy apple juice Body: a bit dry, quite smooth, slightly spicy, something sort of dusty (in a good way!) Palate: very sweet, definitely still some nutmeg and clove, grapey though not like cognac, peach and pear, cinnamon, dark/cook’s chocolate, rosemary and thyme Finish: soft and tannic, bits of oak and the botanicals hold fast, really juicy as Time goes on

Ardbeg Wee Beastie
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 16, 2020 (edited December 22, 2021)Very good. Super hammy and farmy on the nose. Smoother and less smoky on the palate than you’d expect, but still a bit hammy, pepper, and very salty. Very good. -
Daftmill 2009 Single Cask 029/2009 (UK)
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 5, 2020 (edited December 22, 2021)Nose: obviously sherried, dark fruit, brown sugar, a little marzipan, despite the ABV only a slight hint of alcoholic sharpness, slightly weedy, woody Body: extremely thick, spicy, cinnamon, fire, mouth coating and very tannic Palate: wow, a massive sherry bomb—not expecting that after the last Daftmill I had. Very well balanced, the alcohol does not overpower. Very rich, cinnamon, dark chocolate. A bit of prune or date. Dundee cake. Slightly nutty. Finish: mouth-coating and long, woody, a little charred but certainly not smoky, an excellent finish Completely unexpected— is is on the same footing as Amrut PX or Aberlour A’bunadh. Very nice
