Tastes

Nose: sugar cookies, burning twigs, peaches, pecan pie Taste: musty, meaty, smoky, spicy, plums, graham crackers Palate: very oily, mid palate spiciness lingers for a long while on the lips. Slight smokiness remains as well.

Nose: grassy, licorice, astringent, oak, black pepper, herbal Taste: candied orange peel, citrus, cinnamon, lemongrass Drys out the palate, leaves a burning cinnamon aftertaste that lingers.

Turning Point Rye Nose: brown sugar, fingernail polish, musty, dirt, gonna sound weird but it smells like the inside of a shopping mall. Taste: honey and port, maybe some black pepper, also an overpowering rose water flavor... Oily rose and port on the palate, lasts forever. At first crack....this is awful. After breathing a while, id have to say it's still not great. The port and rose flavor are so much in the spotlight, it is really hard to focus on anything else. I think the strength of these specific notes is coming from just too short of a time in the barrel, I wonder if leaving it for a few more years would round out some of the rough edges to this one. I really love their gin tho.

Nose is butterscotch, oak, and topsoil. Taste is mild on sweetness, just a little caramel at the very front. After that it's boiled peanuts with a light dried fruit flavor like raisins at the end. Palate feels dry afterward, oaky flavor leftover but dissipates quickly.

The nose is brown sugar, dried fruit like raisins or dates, and new shoe leather. The taste starts smooth and sweet with a little honey, then hits with that dried fruit flavor and a bitter pecan then finishes with a creme brulee. Seems oily but it doesn't linger on the palate, not a whole lot of flavor left behind just a little vanilla. Overall this is pretty tasty, doesn't seem pot stilled, not a lot of funky flavors that I would expect, just that bitter pecan.

Nose is plums, caramel and rye. Taste is a bit watery kind of reminds me of a watered down Willet rye with cherries, dried fruit and lemongrass. Cherry flavor sticks around on the palate for a medium length.

Nose is banana, honey, vanilla and black pepper. Taste is watery and mild. Leads with a light honey sweetness and a little cherry flavor, hint of black pepper on the very back end...not getting much bitterness. Hard to pick out a whole lot of flavor with the watery character of this one. Palate has a lingering black pepper note that lasts for a medium length of time.

Nose is apples, oak, cinnamon, and maple syrup. Taste is cinnamon, honey, raisins, sugar smacks cereal. A light sweetness remains on the palate for a short while and quickly disperses.

Mint, leather and honey on the nose, mild rye spice that came on after swirling the glass vigorously. Taste is strong spearmint, mild bitterness like pecans, and dried fruit on the back end. Raisin flavor lingers on the palate for a pretty long while.

The nose has a fruit forward cherry and apricot note, with a walnut and honey afterthought. Gentle sweetness honey taste quickly followed by a ripe juicy apricot kick and a back end of bitter pecan. Palate lingers for a medium length with sweet honey on the lips and a bitter nut shell flavor on the back of the tongue.
