Jack Daniel's Gentleman Jack
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed March 29, 2020 (edited April 5, 2020)Gentleman Jack is not a bad drink. It is smoother and better by far over the old Jack Danials #7 for not that much more in price. It has a soft sweet nose that has a nice caramel or vanilla note and gently moves into a smooth wood and creamy body and a nice wood ending. The liquid inside is a solid drink that is better than the regular offering. The bad news is that it is not as good to me as George Dickel #12 for the same price. I believe the GD has a better overall flavor than the Gentleman Jack. Enjoy.23.0 USD per Bottle -
Corralejo Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Guanajuato, Mexico
Reviewed March 29, 2020 (edited November 30, 2022)Thanks to the Covid-19 virus (or Wuhon Flu) I am not traveling at all right now and I decided to use this time to write about some of the bottles in my bar that I have been neglecting so far. Corralejo Reposado is the only tequila I have in my bar at this time and it is a wonderful tequila to drink. I can sip it (which I am doing as I write this) neat or when I make a drink with it I just love how smooth this is. I have read that some people may have gotten a bad bottle and the liquid inside was not fitting to drink and that is always possible, but I personally have never had a bad bottle. Neat this tequila has a mild peppery taste with a touch of woody notes showing up at the beginning. The flavors are thick enough that the flavor lingers in my mouth for several seconds and the burn is very very mild. As I have said this is my favorite tequila I am open to trying others but they have a tough row to hoe if they are going to beat this one. Lastly, in my area, this is $23 a bottle. Enjoy.23.0 USD per Bottle -
During this past summer, I had been on a Gin kick and I tried a fair number of different styles and blends of gins. This is a solid easy-drinking gin that is nice but not quite good enough to break into my top 5 gins. The nose is smooth with a nice juniper start and some mild citrus early on and the citrus notes carry on through the sip. This mixes very well with everything I have made to date. My gin and Tonics are very good with this with the citrus notes show up in the drink. For Martinis, you have to use a good smooth dry or extra dry vermouth and be easy with it as this is only 80 proof and can get washed out easily. Overall, this is a good gin and it is better than many other gins on the market, but it is only 80 proof and the price is fair but there are several gins on the market that I like better for the same or lower price.25.0 USD per Bottle

I have been wanting to review this wonderful Bourbon for a while now but every time I went to write it something would distract me. So here were go. I really like this Bourbon and it is completely different from its mate David Nicholson Reserve. This is a "wheated" Bourbon that a nice smooth sweetness and softness. The nose is sweet vanilla and something else like sugar cookies maybe, but with ice, the flavors become very nice. It makes an excellent counter-point to the boldness of reserve that is smooth where the other is bold. This makes a very fine Old Fashioned and Manhattan but it is sweeter so take that into consideration. Around here this is $27 so it is an easy recommendation. Enjoy.28.0 USD per Bottle

I finished a bottle of this yesterday and wanted to write about it. I bought this on the recommendations from both friends and from the guys at my local store. I was not disappointed I made Martinis with this with 3 different gins and each one was great. I drank it neat and was very surprised by how good it tastes and I even cooked with it and it was great there as well. Having tried this and Noilly Prat Extra Dry Vermouth I still prefer Noilly Prat but this one is also excellent as well. This is a case of you can't go wrong with either. As I have said I have tried this with 3 different gins I made a Martini with Roku, Drumshanbow, and Rabbit Hole Aged Gin. (That gin is not on our lists yet but if you can find it buy it.) They all make very fine drinks. The flavor of the vermouth really goes well with these gins as well as just about anything else I have thrown at it. You can't go wrong with this one.15.0 USD per Bottle

TINCUP American Whiskey
Other Whiskey — Indiana (bottled in Colorado), USA
Reviewed March 25, 2020 (edited June 15, 2020)I have bought this whiskey several times over the years and it is an above-average whiskey around the 18 to 23 dollar range but at the $30 range, there are better options on the market. When I first bought a bottle it was $19 and at that price point, it is an excellent blended whiskey. It pleasant when sipping neat and a little better with ice, but it makes a very good Whiskey Highball but it gets lost in a Manhattan and an Old Fashioned. When sipped neat it is spicey with a little bit of wood and citrus(?). With ice, there is a bit more opening of flavors with the spiciness smoothing out and sweetened a bit. Again, this is a nice whiskey but it became popular and the price rose past its quality. I do not care about the story behind a liquid overall I do think the bottle is eye-catching and the tin cup on the top is neat, but it the liquid inside is not worth drinking then you will only buy one bottle. I do keep my eyes open to find this on sale but with whiskeys like George Dickel No. 12, Powers Gold Label, Sazerac Rye, and Wild Turkey 101 out there in the same price range it is hard to replace any of those with this. It is good but overpriced.28.0 USD per Bottle -
I was recommended this liqueur by one of the guys at my local liquor store for a refreshing hot-weather drink. He said to mix one oz of Pastis with 6 oz of very cold water and stir until the glass gets cold and drink. If you like star-anise or black licorice you will love this drink, but if you don't this is not a pleasant drink. My mother-in-law, however, loves it during the summer. It is all about personal tastes. I do use this to wash my cup when making a Sazerac so it does have other uses. I do believe that liqueurs like this have a place in a well-stocked bar but a little goes a long way.25.0 USD per Bottle

I gave this Scotch a try after a friend recommended it to me as an entry-level Scotch. Well, I have to say I think his taste is different from mine. I have had only a few Scotches so I have fewer examples of good and bad liquids. Chivas Regal has a medicinal flavor maybe Iodine with a woody finish. It is not pleasant sipping it neat and ice helps it a little but nothing like a Bottled in Bond Bourbon. I am open to suggestions for other entry-level Scotches but this good for mixing at best but a serious drink is not me.30.0 USD per Bottle

Old Forester Classic 86 Proof
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 25, 2020 (edited April 10, 2020)I bought a bottle of this Bourbon a few weeks ago to taste any product from the Old Forester line. If this is an entry Bourbon then well-done gentlemen this is a very good entry into their Bourbon. As I drank this I really enjoyed the full flavor it had at 86 proof. When I began drinking whiskeys I would not have enjoyed it the flavor is bold and in your face. The nose has vanilla and a little bit of sweetness but the wood is right there to greet you. The flavor stays in your mouth for some time after swallowed and the wood is present all the way through the drink. As this bottle has been open for several weeks the flavor has changed for the better. For the price, this is very good and I am glad I was able to try it well after I had many other Bourbons as a reference for this one. As I said earlier it is bold and when mixed please take that into consideration when making drinks with it. It does make an excellent Old Fashioned but merely an okay Manhattan. (I do not know if it is the woody notes that make it just okay) This is a good Bourbon that is easy to find and inexpensive. Enjoy.20.0 USD per Bottle -
Very Old Barton 80 Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 25, 2020 (edited July 16, 2020)Several months ago my wife went to Kentucky to visit family and I was on a business trip and could not go with her. I did send her some pictures of Bourbons to look for there that are difficult to find in South Carolina. This is one that she brought back for $14 and what a nice low-cost, 80 proof, and aged at least 3 years Bourbon this is. The liquid inside is smooth and somewhat flavorful but it is a bit thin. To me, it is similar to Evan Williams 1783 in that the flavor is all upfront and fades very quickly when swallowed. The flavor profile, however, is different than EW there is a sharpness and woodiness I do not find in EW. That is not to say it is bad but different. This is an 80 proof liquid and it mixes very well with many things but in a Manhattan, it does get lost a bit. This is a very nice Bourbon that I wish was more readily available here. Enjoy.14.0 USD per Bottle
