What a wonderful Rye this is. I bought this with a few other rye whiskeys and this one was the greatest surprise. It is a great full-flavored Rye and did not shrink when water or ice is added to it. I was as impressed with this whiskey as I was disappointed in Michter's. In the glass, it is a wonderful amber. On the nose, this is full of caramel, citrus, and rye spice, along with vanilla and some oak. The body was just as good with some heat and oak but a very nice rye spice mixed with a citrus sweetness. The finish was long and spicey with vanilla and oak lingering. When I added a touch of water so many of the notes were there just a bit softer and easy. In an Old Fashioned this stuff rocks. It is just amazing. I have not made a Manhattan with it as I have not bought any sweet vermouth in a long time but I will get to it. For the price, it is an outstanding Rye whiskey. I have been wanting to try this for a while but I never had space in my bar for it. Well, this weekend that changed. I found it on sale for $17 and took a chance on it and it is not bad. However, not bad is all that it is. It has a slight ethanol nose but very little else in the way of smell which for vodka can be a good thing. There is some burn when consumed at room temperature and none when the liquid is chilled. It mixes very well with every drink I have made with it like Martinis, Harvey Wallbangers, and Vodka Tonics. I like the bottle it has a classic saloon look to it and it has a cork top. The only real issue I have with it is that is normally $20 or so in my area and I can get several other vodkas at better prices than Dixie. If you like vodka this is a good one to have but if you are just keeping a bar stocked there are cheaper options out there. Enjoy.20.0 USD per Bottle

Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 11, 2020 (edited June 15, 2020)This is a solid Rye whiskey that is overpriced for the quality and flavor you get. During the virus lockdown, I have not been buying or reviewing as much as I wanted to. Also, one of the biggest changes I did make is that I got a set of Glencairn glasses. I want to thank BDanner and others that recommended that I use it to taste spirits. Now I bought Michter's Rye, Knob Creek Rye, and Pikesville Rye around the same time and really did not start drinking them until recently. Michter's Rye has a cool classic bottle and a dark mahogany appearance and clings to the sides of the glass nicely. The nose is sweet and spicey with a touch of citrus and herbal with dill popping up. Vanilla and oak make their presence known as well. The body is a bit of a letdown as it is thinner than the nose promises. The rye is there on the body and it just does not last as long as I thought it would. I could taste the vanilla still and candy-like sweetness like good butterscotch or caramel but again it does not last very long. The finish is a decent spice and ethanol burn but short of the three ryes, I tried this had the shortest finish. Overall, this is a solid rye whiskey but overpriced for an 84.8 proof spirit. Of the three bottles, I bought this one came in third due to the cost and flavor profile and strength. I like the bottle but it is $42 in my area. I like Rittenhouse, Old Overholt, and Sazerac as my daily ryes to drink or have in the bar. Enjoy.43.0 USD per Bottle -
Popcorn Sutton Tennessee White Wiskey
Corn — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed May 7, 2020 (edited October 30, 2024)This is a rough spirit to drink. It says it is a white whiskey (unaged) and yes it is. Now I have very little experience with unaged whiskey but I do like gins, vodkas, and white rum so I took a chance with this. First, on the nose, it is sweet corn and ethanol. There is almost no middle body and the finish is also sweet with a touch of bitterness at the very end. While I did not like it at first it did grow on me over the weeks that I tried it. I have made whiskey and cokes out of it and it is just fine for that I just do not see me getting a new bottle when this one is gone. Sorry Popcorn I am not a fan of this.25.0 USD per Bottle -
I recently found this on sale at my local store for $10 and at that price, this is an absolutely wonderful deal. It is a crisp clean vodka that does not have a strong ethanol smell at room temperature and chilled it is very smooth. Neat this is pleasant to sip. It mixes very well with everything I have made so far like Vodka Martinis, Harvey Wallbangers, and Vodka Tonics and let me say again this was $10 local. While vodka is not my goto liqueur of choice I do recognize a great deal when I see one. So during this time of Stay at Home exile for the virus, a great buy will not be passed up. I picked this up at my local package store a while ago. It was on clearance for around $20 and I took a chance. This is a very unique Gin because when I opened the bottle I smelled mint and I was not ready for it. I did smell other Gin herbs but the mint caught me off guard. Overall, it is not a bad Gin but it did not make a very good Gin and Tonic because the mint and lime did not play well together. However, it did make a surprisingly good Martini and the mint made the drink quite refreshing. Since I have purchased this bottle I have finished a bottle of Citadelle Gin and opened a bottle of Roku Gin. I believe this is a novelty Gin but it does have a cool look to it.40.0 USD per Bottle

I bought a bottle of this two weeks ago and I have made several drinks with it and had several small glasses by itself. Overall, it is different it is not as sweet as I thought it would be but it is sweeter than several sweet wines I have had. It does make a good Wet Martini but the Gin is very important because if it does not have strong citrus notes then the flavor is off somewhat. I have cooked with it and it adds great flavors to pork and chicken dishes. Cinzano Bianco is very inexpensive and I will revisit this summer and try it with hot weather drinks but for right now it is only nice and not something I would use regularly. Jack Daniel's Gentleman Jack
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed March 29, 2020 (edited April 5, 2020)Gentleman Jack is not a bad drink. It is smoother and better by far over the old Jack Danials #7 for not that much more in price. It has a soft sweet nose that has a nice caramel or vanilla note and gently moves into a smooth wood and creamy body and a nice wood ending. The liquid inside is a solid drink that is better than the regular offering. The bad news is that it is not as good to me as George Dickel #12 for the same price. I believe the GD has a better overall flavor than the Gentleman Jack. Enjoy.23.0 USD per Bottle -
Corralejo Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Guanajuato, Mexico
Reviewed March 29, 2020 (edited November 30, 2022)Thanks to the Covid-19 virus (or Wuhon Flu) I am not traveling at all right now and I decided to use this time to write about some of the bottles in my bar that I have been neglecting so far. Corralejo Reposado is the only tequila I have in my bar at this time and it is a wonderful tequila to drink. I can sip it (which I am doing as I write this) neat or when I make a drink with it I just love how smooth this is. I have read that some people may have gotten a bad bottle and the liquid inside was not fitting to drink and that is always possible, but I personally have never had a bad bottle. Neat this tequila has a mild peppery taste with a touch of woody notes showing up at the beginning. The flavors are thick enough that the flavor lingers in my mouth for several seconds and the burn is very very mild. As I have said this is my favorite tequila I am open to trying others but they have a tough row to hoe if they are going to beat this one. Lastly, in my area, this is $23 a bottle. Enjoy.23.0 USD per Bottle -
During this past summer, I had been on a Gin kick and I tried a fair number of different styles and blends of gins. This is a solid easy-drinking gin that is nice but not quite good enough to break into my top 5 gins. The nose is smooth with a nice juniper start and some mild citrus early on and the citrus notes carry on through the sip. This mixes very well with everything I have made to date. My gin and Tonics are very good with this with the citrus notes show up in the drink. For Martinis, you have to use a good smooth dry or extra dry vermouth and be easy with it as this is only 80 proof and can get washed out easily. Overall, this is a good gin and it is better than many other gins on the market, but it is only 80 proof and the price is fair but there are several gins on the market that I like better for the same or lower price.25.0 USD per Bottle
