Nose is heavy on the peat but after that it's more approachable, tasting much less of smoke tannin than your nose indicated. Graham, cocoa-dusted maraschino cherries, old oily lantern grease, stale lemon tarts I sipped it neat and found that perfect. My bottle was a dusty, with a "2016" born on date. Hoping the quality has stayed, because this bottle is dynamite at the msrp.

Needs another 7 years and an 'Eagle Rare' label before I'd call it anything more than 'passable house brown'/good Lacks cohesion despite an agreeable base, tastes watery at 90proof and had a tinge of yeast rolls from golden corral on the finish. Not for me probably much ever but is drinkable, inoffensive, cheap, and truly workhorse in application so give it a 3/5 or more if flavor isn't your big score determinant. Bought some on a whim to see if I REALLY do want to go to a BF store pick drop event upcoming... honestly feel like I'm going to pass*... The BT oldfash mix, and sazerac orange bitters being includes in a gift set helped seal the purchase. *it could be amasing or meh I'm not trying to find out when eagle rare exists and is probably the same price, better if I work for it

Weller Special Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 23, 2021 (edited January 4, 2022)Is this a 91? No Is this really good? Yes Should you stash it? Probably not, unless quality cheap brown is very hard to get. Should you pay over msrp? Definitely not much. Nose: Fresh red apple slices, faint sweetbreads, cherry menthol, and something faintly vanilla and marshmallow-ly. Reminds me of a bastardized mckenna with more red fruit. Palate Starts with the faintest reminder of oak on the inhale, moves quickly to cherry than lighter wheater notes like honey/vanilla. There is a faint "Andes mint" thing in the back where earthy, chewy mint-like savoriness mingles with rich cocoa-y fudge. Mouth Short finish but it's nice for being cheap and sweet. 90 proof but glides down very, very velvety. Don't leave it in the glass too long, as the lightness will become just innofensive and boring. I paid $43 for a 1.75 and it felt fair. Unless you were just bonkers for buff trace and ABSOLUTELY HAD to try all their offerings I don't really see a reason to hunt this one down or hoard it. Makers is better by a whisker (46 by a decent bit), so I don't really know who this is gonna "wow"... it's "wow" for the msrp but nothing else terribly special. -
Jack Daniel's 10 Year (Batch 1)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed October 7, 2021 (edited April 8, 2022)N RICH caramel sauce, sweet wood that intertwines with the aged oak, marshmallow, maple.maple.maple, banana P Golden raisins, the age of the wood in the best way possible, oily maple syrup M The 97 proof is perfect, the maple-bomb is both enriched and tamed by the decade on oak. Effortless, prepare to get in trouble if given the chance. I don't like the price compared to the old distiller editions (I'm old enough to have enjoyed them far more than today's fellow taters), those were $35-50, this was $63+tax @msrp, at which I'm lucky to have snagged it for apparently. I like it more than the average of those, though... this is a duh for Jack fans who enjoy the profile. Was between this and a super cheap 1.75 of gentleman before leaving the store and this was the right choice64.0 USD per Bottle -
Oaky, tannic bitterness at the end of the palate ruins the otherwise pleasantly plain 8yr dewars base. The mizu influence is very minimal, although it does have a touch (more sweet mango and allspice than sandalwood, but barely there it is) It's very buttery and that with the honey in dewars base redeems it a little. Would rather grab 12yr for the same price, paid $24.99 but will still probably skip this again, just nothing going on here. I recently learned Chivas mizu is discontinued, so that is sad as I have grown rather fond of it. This couldn't even carry those shoes, much less fill them, but is $25 cheaper.

Eagle Rare 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 26, 2021 (edited December 25, 2021)Toffee, cinnamon. Light sweet mouth coating I associate with wheaters. Its more of a Kentucky handshake on sunday morning than hug. The back end (I think of it as the "chew") and the mouth here are nicely full for the $. The mouth in particular feels a touch simple, I'll let you decide if that adds or subtracts. Some molasses and toasted nuts as the experience dries off your mouth. 45% but drinks easier definitely. I didnt like it with ice, but am excited to try it with a sour or Manhattan. Pretty good but dont go paying much over msrp. -
Deserves way more than a "50". I can think of several bottles that cost more (old monk is $20) and drink far worse. Made in India, 7 year age statement. N Molasses-dipped weathers original candy. Raisin, ethanol, cherry cough syrup, rich dulce de leche P Brown sugar, toffee, tamarind, root beer spices. Weak and thin but enjoyable. M This is where I dont understand the bad rating--it goes down fantastic! Neat or mixed this badboy was tasty. The ethanol nose is nowhere to be found, and the thinness in the palate translates to a smooth finish. Easily the best rum and cola rum I've tried! Normally I hate them but the internet said it was tailor-made for them, so I made a few. A few turned into a second, then third bottle. It made a perfectly drinkable colada, yet seemed a bit too butterscotch/toffee-forward. Wondering if batch variance is a big thing here? No way the stuff I've been drinking is a 50/100, 80-83 range sounds way more accurate.20.0 USD per Bottle

Milagro Select Barrel Reserve Silver Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed June 13, 2021 (edited June 22, 2021)Its not quite Roca Patron (theres a buterriness and soft sweetness that this lacks), but for half the price I'm going to say this is a great sipping silver. The oak finishing brings a nice little peppery dry smoothness that makes your brain want to keep sipping and find the sweetness driving it. Velvet mouthfeel. Sugar frosting sweetness somewhere in the middle but it's so damn smooth and crisp you really dont dwell on it I made a lazy marg or two with tres agave premixer and found it to be nice if a touch alcohol-forward. It was nice, but far better neat. I've noticed not all mid-shelf silver is perfect by itself, but this one easily qualifies. If you're a slow-sipping with lime and salt and little else kinda person this is for you. Feels made for day-drinking. -
George Dickel 15 Year Tennessee Single Barrel
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed June 6, 2021 (edited October 29, 2021)Bottle #190, 50.6% (wild dickel 101?) Nose Cinnamon, dried maple syrup, oak tannin, hazelnut, tiny tiny bit of mineral vanilla at the very end Palate Mixed nuts, cherry syrup, nutmeg, dry oak that only pops by to remind you of its age, no heavy oak tannins or barrell influence. The "dr pepper" spicy note comes in with the follow up sips. Mouth Smooth for the proof but nothing special at all. Finish is on the longer side, but it doesnt really matter considering its eminently forgettable. Makes a fantastic sour (fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, hard shake). Was "okay" in an old fashioned. Neat/rocks/shot it was honestly kinda boring theres way more satisfying drams at lower price points. It doesnt have any major drawbacks, but I expect a lot more from $60 bottle. Felt like I just paid for the age and not attention to final product detail. Profile-wise it's like Gentleman with way more robust depth. For mixing it seemed like bird dog 7yr with triple the price tag. -
