Nulu Bourbon Whiskey finished in Honey Barrels Experimental Finish Series
Bourbon — MGP, USA
Reviewed December 19, 2024Whiskey Consensus Single Barrel Select Nose- overwhelmingly honey, but slightly funky and off putting, like fresh honeycomb Taste- balanced but in a way that feels like everything washes itself out. Like the honey/syrup sweetness is there but cut by the brashness of the whiskey, and the whiskey doesn’t shine through either Finish - light and mostly honey with some floral and baking spice Not sure if it’s overly finished or if the whiskey used was mediocre (i.e., young or subpar), but this is very meh. The sweetness at times overwhelms and the whiskey doesn’t shine through. Pass for me110.0 USD per Bottle -
Store Pick Single Barrel, 100 proof Nose- muted. Ethanol is prominent with some faint sweet oak and a candied note that reminds me of circus peanuts. Bit of a letdown Taste- a pleasant nuttiness that i typically get from HH products, a faint bit of chocolate and light caramel Overall: an easy sipper that hits some solid sweet/nutty notes. Would be a great daily pour if the price weren’t so high69.0 USD per Bottle

Nose- plum and other dark fruits though in a funky fermented way. garden herbs and a bit of tobacco Taste- raisins galore, some peach, a rye bready note, clove, honey Finish- medium and earthy with faint spice, nice oily mouthfeel If you’re big on raisins and plum notes in your rye, this is for you109.0 USD per Bottle

Nose- sweet and desserty. Maple, caramel, honey buns. Reminds me of AE rye Taste- not as sweet as the nose lets on which is a good thing! More caramel-y pastries, honey and pear/apple. Similar toasted flavor that I get from something like WR DO but not as sweet and a smidge astringent Finish- lighter and on the sweet side, candied orange and dry oak65.0 USD per Bottle

N- tangerines, almond extract and a hint of chocolate. pleasant T- punchy but well balanced. Wintergreen freshness, vanilla shortbread and a bit more citrus. Loads of rye spice and cinnamon candies on the backend F-spicy with a vanilla oak astringency In your face in a polite and balanced way. Proof gives a range of flavors to sift through. Really enjoyable!

Nose- just a fantastic nose. Berry reduction, leather, vanilla bean and rye spice. Faintest bit of ethanol Taste- a bit more dialed back than the nose would let on, maybe due to the proof. But still a great mix of Cherry, candied pecan, lots of oak and baking spices. High rye definetely comes though Finish- brown sugar sweetness followed by black pepper and black tea Awesome balance of red berry sweetness and oak influence- this is a fantastic pour.90.0 USD per Bottle
