Neat. Very mild nose without much character. Sweet orange peel followed with a flash of white pepper spice. Would likely lose this with water/ice; very muted even on the second sip. Clings to the roof of the mouth rather than the tongue. Sherry is prominent with notes of honey. Smooth and rich in the mouth. Very good and easy to recommend - a crowd pleaser, but perhaps just a bit uninspiring to assign to the upper echelon.35.0 USD per Bottle

Hochstadter's Slow & Low Rock & Rye (84 Proof)
Rye — (BOTTLED IN) Scobeyville, New Jersey, USA
Reviewed August 8, 2016 (edited February 4, 2019)First taste was amongst other whiskeys... not a fan. Very sweet and cloying with a strongly medicinal, bitter citrus rind taste. Later, after reading the label and approaching with a different frame of mind, it was much more enjoyable as an aperitif. More comparable with liqueurs or Drambuie than unadultered whiskeys. -
Highland Park 12 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed July 8, 2016 (edited September 11, 2018)One of the first peated Scotches I purchased. Approachable smoke with toffee and some light tropical fruit beneath, and balanced. Wasn't blown away but my palate has matured since. Need to revisit.48.0 USD per Bottle -
Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 19, 2016 (edited September 11, 2018)A smooth caramel-toffee nose. I'm pleased that it is very similar to the black label, except no hints of ethanol. Some fresh apple. A deep pour with two cubes that have now melted. First taste isn't quite as expected. Noticeably "salty". Clearly conveys the essence of sweetness, but doesn't actually taste very sweet (compared to many bourbons). Maybe a little at the back of the palate only. Some vanilla extract. Very very smooth. Touch of oak. Interesting but not in love. Definitely well-made and pleasing. Will have to give it another shot neat. I have a feeling the flavor and texture will be more pronounced and nuanced than on this first taste. 2nd taste - neat this time. Definitely the way to go. Much more pronounced flavor. Banana and nutmeg. Quite good.26.0 USD per Bottle -

Reviewed February 5, 2016 (edited March 14, 2016)Very very nice. First taste is smoke, then a sweet rich blend immediately takes over. The epitome of balance. Try some now.
