Black Saddle Bourbon 12 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in California), USA
Reviewed December 30, 2023A surprisingly smooth bourbon. Excellent start with a nice hint of cherry with a full body on the backside to give an excellent finish. One to keep on the bar top!50.0 USD per BottleABC Store -
First tried this at the Dalwhinnie distillery in Scotland. It was partnof the tastings with the tour. Absolutely one of my favorite scotches and wish I could buy it in the USA. A nice smooth scotch and a nice complex set of flavors as outlined in my flavor notes. One to keep on the bar top whenever I come across another bottle.

Highland 2007 12 Year Single Malt (Deer, Bear & Moose)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 24, 2023A very nice scotch and one I will keep on the top shelf. Nice and smooth with wonderful flavors on the backside. I am trying this thru a Flaviour tasting package so details on age and cost are not truly at hand but the app requires those fields to have something entered. Please amend at needed for accuracy. Thanks -
High Wire Disilling Company Jimmy Red Classic
Bourbon — Charleston, SC, USA
Reviewed December 24, 2023Not the smoothest bourbon around but sure enough interesting! A bit spicy and it builds for just a bit but the backside is where all thr flavor is on this one. Maybe a little woody and dry but a hint of butter has all that dryness forgiven! -
Olde Raleigh Whiskey Society Blended Bourbon (Batch 1)
Bourbon — North Carolina, USA
Reviewed December 23, 2023So one from my first hometown… a nice bourbon as far as body and smoothness. No true distinctive flavors come to the forefront and what I believe to be a little woody on the backside. Seems to be full and rich nonetheless. One I’ll keep around a bit to see if i can unlock this flavor mystery. -
My first that I recall of New Zealand whisky! A nice complex flavor palette. Up front i get cherry with a little heat buildup which mellows into a nice smooth, smoky with that reminiscent cherry. Not enough to say this is a cherry flavored whisky but just that subtle hint. I’ll keep my eye out for this one.

Okay, I’m intrigued by this one… luck of thr Irish I guess! Anyway as these types of whiskies go this may be my favorite yet! I like the mystery of the flavor but identified some in my flavor notes. A little woody to me but no peat. Starts to build a little heat but that backs away nicely before it overwhelms everything else. Might keep this on on the bar top!
