Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 25, 2019 (edited April 17, 2019)Neat. Dark fruits up front on the nose. Plums, figs. Some oak behind it. Fades to vanilla. Some interesting spice. On the taste, it has a light texture. Palate gets hit with a high fruit note, maybe a white grape. On the swallow I get all the tastes in the nose. Nice legs for a 86 proof. I didn’t appreciate this when I first got into bourbon, but I now understand how to separate the finishing. Very enjoyable. -

Reviewed March 25, 2019 (edited August 11, 2020)Neat. That nose is delightful. There is a creaminess to the nose (which is odd to me.) Chocolate and fruit with vanilla. Some baking spices back there. Pastries all combined. I could sniff this for a long time. Proof never hits me no matter how hard I smell it. Wow strawberry jam. Let that sit on your tongue and the flavors just ooze. Oak, chocolate and spices on the finish. The nose is even more delicious now. And I can still taste it minutes later. It’s a special treat. -
Knob Creek 25th Anniversary Single Barrel Reserve
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 23, 2019 (edited December 31, 2019)Neat. Bottle I have is 13 years old. The color is a gorgeous dark amber. Lots of layers on the nose. Heavy vanilla and spice. Spice isn’t a cinnamon, more like an all spice. Lots of floral notes. It’s really really good. It’s a nice light mouth feel. Char sugars initially but on the swallow it transitions to a symphony of dark and high flavor notes. Starts as a chocolate, then comes the spice, then the vanilla bomb. Those flavors will last in the mouth for as long as they are allowed. This is some amazing stuff. -
Neat. Bourbon Street store pick. Nose has noticeably less burn than the standard but otherwise same flavors on the nose. Flavors are dark cherries, oak, floral. Caramel and char. Mouth feel is thin and sugar water on palate. Chocolate, caramel, vanilla mixture on the taste with some spice on the legs. Considering how much I adore the Barrel Proof, I can’t get into the Small Batch. Even a store pick.

Neat. Bourbon Street store pick. I can’t believe how much better this store pick is versus standard. Nose pops with vanilla. There is a floral note behind it. Cherries. All high notes. Smooth but not creamy mouth feel. Tons of vanilla again on the taste. Gives way to a nice cinnamon and vanilla finish. Not complex but amazing sipper. Totally different notes than the standard bottle. If I compared these blind I would have no idea they were the same brand. The standard bottle I have is way spicier throughout.

Neat. Uncorked Private selection. First time I have seen a private pick of the rye. Glad I pulled the trigger. All the flavors in this are amped up compared to the standard. A lot more rye, spice and vanilla from the nose. Lot of floral notes. Texture is creamier. Flavors are a bit more pronounced. Same flavors as the nose but the spice is much darker and deeper. The legs are longer too. Glad I bought it!
