Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 16, 2018 (edited December 9, 2018)Close your eyes and you’ll swear you were sniffing red wine, with hints of cherry cough drop, and gold butterscotch candy. Silky smooth mouthfeel is followed with a tease of sweet “oh yeah!” but it finishes fast with a thin oaken dryness. In the words of Rick James “She’s a very tricky girl...” -
Stagg Jr Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch 1
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 5, 2017 (edited April 9, 2019)Nose of burnt brown sugar, vanilla bean, cinnamon stick, and old wood from Mamaw’s attic. Smooth full mouth feel with similar flavors but adds root beer, cherries, peppery finish. Love this one. Punches like Mike Tyson after snorting speed. -
Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed December 4, 2017 (edited April 18, 2019)Captain Jack will get you high tonight, and take you to your special island. If Milli Vanilli and Curious George had a baby. -
Tullamore D.E.W. Irish Whiskey
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed December 4, 2017 (edited November 29, 2018)Sparse nose, hits like a fast pitch to the nose but with a smooth and rounded mouth feel. Faint heather floral sweetness with a lightning fast finish into nothingness. Simple but satisfying. A good poolside whiskey that doesn’t require much thought. Makes me want to throat punch an Irishman. -
Intriguing nose, different than most...initially a fresh yeasty dough, and wet leather like i jumped in the creek in the middle of summer with nothing but my leather chaps on, then dried fruit (apricots and raisins) then fades into smokey char with mineral/metallic. Tastes like I threw up in my mouth, then ate copper pennies, then ends with a little licorice. Saving this for the zombie apocalypse.

Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt
Blended Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 1, 2017 (edited April 21, 2019)Very mild nose, subtle citrus rind, toast, fresh bread dough, teases with fresh peeled underripe green banana. Minimal heat allows you to daydream about something redeeming in the absent finish. Overall, it’s like a pop quiz when you have all the answers memorized. Not a challenge but still feel good. -
Aberfeldy 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 1, 2017 (edited November 5, 2019)My first scotch and still my favorite. Parafin waxy nose, honey sweetness with an enjoyable drying bitter finish but still very smooth. Water mutes everything but the honey, and the last sip is like nectar. -
Larceny Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 1, 2017 (edited April 21, 2019)Can’t deny the banana bread, but secondary nose is apple cider vinegar and Tennessee sour mash, this is the sweetest bourbon I’ve tasted. Grandma’s butterscotch candy. A keeper. Pleasant sting on the gums. The ladies might sip this’ un.
