Del Maguey Minero Santa Catarina Minas Mezcal
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed October 11, 2020I wanted to try a higher end Mezcal and based on reviews here I went with this one. Glad I did. On a whole different level than a lot of the cheaper Mezcal's I've tried previously. The smoke is much more subtle and the sweeter, honey and fruit notes are upfront. Very long finish and viscous mouthfeel. Definitely a 5/5 in my limited experience.62.0 USD per Bottle -
Kentucky Owl Confiscated Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 9, 2019 (edited July 10, 2019)I really wanted to give this a glowing recommendation. I love the story behind this bourbon and everything Dixon Dedman is doing to resurrect the brand. However, this bottle is about $40 too expensive. At $99, I feel like this should be an exceptional whiskey. It's not. That doesn't mean it's a bad one. It's very drinkable and the floral and fruity notes carry it forward to a medium-length finish. But it's astringent on the nose and the taste lacks the depth and dark, rich flavors that I love about higher-end bourbon. And the lower proof point doesn't help it. I recommend you try a pour of it before buying a bottle.99.0 USD per Bottle -
I put off trying this for a while based on the reviews. But I was pleasantly surprised when I finally got my hands on a bottle. It has that classic Beam nuttiness, but the fruitiness from the finishing complements the flavor greatly. For $35, this is a great new product in the Jim Beam line. Much better than standard White Label, but lacks the oakiness I love from the Knob Creek Single Barrel for $15 more. I may not always keep this on my shelf, but it's an exciting change in what I've come to expect from the distillery. Recommended.35.0 USD per Bottle

WhistlePig 15 Year Estate Oak Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed January 15, 2019 (edited December 27, 2019)Incredible tasting rye. Similar flavor profile to the 10-year, but an explosion of flavors. The extra years did wonders for adding a well-balanced oak profile to this whiskey. The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is due to the price. Luckily, I tried this at a free tasting, but I wouldn't pay the asking price for it. Many other great ryes that fall under this price point. -
