Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 23, 2024 (edited March 23, 2024)I honestly don't really get the hype with this one. The nose is fruity with a faint smell of pine wood, while the taste is super fruity and minty, with a bit of wood thrown in there. The finish is pleasant enough after a few seconds. All in all, its pleasant to sip but at $60-$70, I'd expect a big more. -
The nose is nice and hot, with spices, red fruit, and some toasted oak scents. Surprisingly sipable for the proof, the heat is nice but not overwhelming and sits in the mouth for a good length of time. When the spice subsides, you get a sweetness with vanilla and honey. For $50 bucks, this is a great value.

This one is hurt a bit by its price point. The smell is a highlight, as you get a bready scent with big vanilla on the nose. To me, the flavor could be a bit more complex. It starts off a bit sweet/burnt with a caramel flavor, but the sweetness quickly wears off and gets dominated by a harsher smoky ethanol flavor. The finish lingers for a good amount of time, but isn't particularly notable. At $40, this would be a solid, if unremarkable, occasional sipper. However, this goes for around $100, which i can't get behind at all. Not bad by any means, but not notable either.

Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 9, 2022The nose is really nice, as the port finish really shines through, along with a peppery, leathery, red fruit-ish kind of note. The taste isn't too crazy though. A mellow, slightly fruity, slightly creamy taste makes it highly drinkable, but not very interesting. It does linger for a bit in the mouth, but not a lot of heat. Overall, not bad. Not going to be a staple in my bar, but glad I tried it. -
An abomination. The nose immediately strikes you as off-putting, as it smells like grain alcohol with a sour, artificial aroma. The taste is somehow worse. It honestly takes like you shouldn't be drinking it. It is like a rancid, thick syrup fused with alcohol. The syrupy taste also coats the mouth for an uncomfortable length of time. One of the worst "whiskies" I've tried. Avoid.

Larceny Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 2, 2022 (edited September 22, 2022)On the nose I get a sweet cherry, honey, and oak blend. It's more of the same on the tongue, and would be too sweet for my taste if the oak taste didn't cut it a little bit and give it bit of a finish that lasts for a decent length of time. All in all, this is a good sipper for the price. I prefer makers for a budget wheated bourbon, but can't complain about this at the price point. Would buy again. -
Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 6, 2021 (edited December 17, 2021)Delicious. The nose is very nice and not overpowering. I get corn, oak, banana, and a hint of chocolate, and sweet vanilla. The smell translates to the taste. This is very smooth, with chocolate, oak, sugar, cherry, and a hint of banana on the taste. Finish is with a nice heat that lingers for a bit. Excellent value for what you're getting here. -
Brother Jim got this for my wedding. It's not half bad, kinda like the Vampire Diaries. On the nose, you definitely get the sweetness of the corn, with a bit of a banana scent. The palette is more of the sweetness with a bit of vanilla and sweet fruit, and this is very drinkable. I don't get any of the heat from the rye. Not super interesting, but very easy to casually sip. Pretty solid.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 11, 2021 (edited April 20, 2021)Absolutely great. The nose has strong caramel and melted sugar notes along with a kick of spice. This bourbon has a good kick with it's high proof, but is surprisingly smooth for the alcohol content. The taste packs a lot of heat before disolving into sweet vanilla and oak. Finish is smooth, and the heat sits on the tongue for a while. Great whiskey, and at it's price point, it is among the best options out there.
