Edradour Sherry Cask Matured Natural Cask Strength
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 25, 2023 (edited August 26, 2023)2010 aged 12 years, cask #416, 57.2% Nose: caramel, chocolate, fig, musty grapes Palate: big punch of dark chocolate, malty oily backbone Finish: medium length, plums, caramel, shortbread This is the Edradour I know and love. Not for the faint of heart. Only thing slightly lacking in this one is the length of the finish. -
Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie Scottish Barley
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 14, 2023Nose: malt, hay, honey, grass fields, brine Palate: viscous mouthfeel, fruits (some sherry influence is evident), malty Finish: long, fruity, smoky Not too sweet, pretty good for an unpeated scotch. Nice that it’s 50% ABV. -
Macallan Double Cask 12 Year
Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed December 27, 2022 (edited January 5, 2023)Nose: ethanol, honey, diesel Palate: nuts, honey, sulfur, a bit harsh Finish: Fruity, salty This isn’t bad but it’s overpriced for what it is. -
Benriach The Smoky Twelve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 23, 2022 (edited December 24, 2022)Nose: orange, faint smoke, coffee, hazelnuts Palate: orange, peat earthiness, very mild smoke, chocolate. Medium viscosity Finish: malt, fruits, spicy, creamy As a peathead I wouldn’t classify this as “smoky” but the peat is noticeable and adds a nice backbone to the whisky. Even without the peat I think this would be an enjoyable dram; it’s not sickly sweet like some of its other speyside counterparts and I appreciate a nice citrus flavor in scotch. Would be a nice springtime whisky - not too heavy and not too light. -
Maker's Mark Cask Strength Batch 21-08 (112.5 Proof)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 20, 2022 (edited August 26, 2023)Nose: boozy, fruity, vanilla frosting Palate: baking spices, caramel, vanilla Finish: cinnamon, orange peel More citrusy and spicy than the usual maker’s profile. A bit thin on the mouthfeel but thickens a bit with the addition of a few drops of water. -
