Laphroaig Càirdeas 2022 Warehouse 1
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 29, 2023 (edited August 26, 2023)Nose is typical Laphroaig. Palate is more oaky than the 10 year, perhaps a bit less medicinal and more herbal/vegetal peat. Finish is a bit short. Overall it’s good but not great. -

Reviewed January 25, 2023 (edited August 26, 2023)2010 aged 12 years, cask #416, 57.2% Nose: caramel, chocolate, fig, musty grapes Palate: big punch of dark chocolate, malty oily backbone Finish: medium length, plums, caramel, shortbread This is the Edradour I know and love. Not for the faint of heart. Only thing slightly lacking in this one is the length of the finish. -

Benriach The Smoky Twelve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 23, 2022 (edited December 24, 2022)Nose: orange, faint smoke, coffee, hazelnuts Palate: orange, peat earthiness, very mild smoke, chocolate. Medium viscosity Finish: malt, fruits, spicy, creamy As a peathead I wouldn’t classify this as “smoky” but the peat is noticeable and adds a nice backbone to the whisky. Even without the peat I think this would be an enjoyable dram; it’s not sickly sweet like some of its other speyside counterparts and I appreciate a nice citrus flavor in scotch. Would be a nice springtime whisky - not too heavy and not too light.
