Auchentoshan Three Wood
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 29, 2017 (edited November 14, 2017)Nose: All spice and freshly cut pine lead the pack. Maraschino cherries, wet earth and WOOD. Palate: a wave of fresh cut wood, followed by vanilla and sherry. Thin body. Finish: medium length, clean finish, more wood and bean sprouts?! Just far too much wood for me. It's like walking through a lumber yard on a hot day. 77/100. $79.95 cad -
GlenDronach Original 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 27, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Palate: a wave of sweetness leads to malted chocolate and raisins. I find dates as well that and definite sherry. Wonderful medium mouthfeel and a long warm but not hot finish. Very good stuff. 93/100. -
Yellow Spot 12 Year Single Pot Still
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed August 11, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Tasting note will come in time but I find this to be a world class whiskey. More complex than my beloved Redbreast twelve and certainly more depth than Green Spot which no also enjoy. However reading reviews here on both the Green and Yellow it seems a the Yellow is quite a bit more money most places. Here in Ontario corrected for the 50ml bottle difference Yellow Spot is only $8 more and so this seems a no brainer to me. $99.85 -
Tyrconnell 16 Year Single Malt
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed August 9, 2017 (edited October 29, 2017) -
Nose: incredibly soft, almost perfume. Unique and dare I say spectacular in its subtlety. Palate: you will not find a creamier mouthfeel, perfect. Honey, Sherry. It lacks the complexity of a good Scotch but what it does it does exceptionally well. Wonderful. Finish: medium length finish with no lingering single notes. Everything passes in perfect synchronicity. This is the first whiskey that really wowed me. For some reason reminds me of playing with old toy trains with my Dad. Weird. I had a poker night with a blind whiskey tasting a few weeks back and everybody brought their favorite. At the end they all anonymously picked "number 2". A clean sweep for my Redbreast and a handful of new fans! 94/100.

Old Pulteney 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 7, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)This one comes very highly rated. Colour is medium. Nose: Sea salt and damp soft wood. Palate: a wave of Sweetness, lovely mouthfeel. Too subtle for me at this point to pick out the details but I really enjoy it. This might be the perfect "scotch". Finish: smooth and too short. 92/100. -

Highland Park 18 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed November 18, 2016 (edited November 21, 2016)A proper review to follow. First impressions.... very sweet nose. Much like Talisker. Light smoke, breastfed baby. Just trust me on this, breast milk is sweet. This stuff is luxurious. A wave of malty sweetness washed over your palate. I am still getting my bearings on this. Seems to be lacking the complexity I had imagined. 97/100. -
