Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 10, 2020 (edited September 24, 2020)This pour is downright delicious! At 58.4 ABV, it’s right in my sweet spot and this definitely does not disappoint. It’s got a complex vanilla forward nose that makes it hard to put it down and the palate just continues on with more oak and char. I am struggling to find any negatives at all. The finish is nice and long with a slight drying note at the very end. One of my favorites. -
Caribou Crossing Single Barrel Canadian Whisky
Canadian — Canada
Reviewed April 8, 2020 (edited June 20, 2020)The only thing I don’t like about this is the lack of the ABV! Because of that though, it is ultra smooth and it’s like drinking butter. I think the flavor is there and is a welcome change when I want something different every now and then. Best Canadian I’ve had hands down!! -
Stagg Jr Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch 13
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed April 8, 2020 (edited September 13, 2020)Man, this stuff is good! Just did a side by side comparison with this and batch 12. I gotta say that this one just edges out the other batch. More of the traditional bourbon flavors like oak and vanilla come through on this batch and it has a slightly thicker mouthfeel. The palate on this batch is also a little bit drier but both are amazing with long finishes. Great pour!! -
Stagg Jr Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch 12
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 8, 2020 (edited October 11, 2020)Doing a side by side comparison of this and batch 13. This one has a much sweeter nose and a little more fruit on the palate but packs a little bit more of a punch. Letting this one open up for 5 or 10 minutes really did it wonders but I think I give the edge to batch 13. -
Glenmorangie Astar 2017 Edition
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 7, 2020 (edited July 30, 2020)Super fruity and I really appreciate the higher ABV -
This review can be taken with a grain of salt, I’m trying to be fair but my palate has changed over the last few years and I now definitely appreciate bourbon way more than any scotch. I just went though my collection and I’m adding in tastings that must have slipped though the cracks. While I prefer bourbon, whiskey in general is still delicious and this one is no slouch. For a peated whiskey, not a whole lot of that peat makes an appearance in the nose or the palate which is a plus in my book. I’m not a huge fan of the overpowering peat so I guess thats just whats I likes about this whiskey!

New Riff 4 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited April 9, 2020)Barrel No 15-4079. 56.7ABV While this is very good, due to the younger age, this lacks the depth I was hoping for. I did get a lot of spice and there is some flavor there but it just seems a little muted to me. Overall good pour but I won’t be searching for another bottle right off the bat. -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B519
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 5, 2020 (edited July 3, 2021)This stuff is just out of this world! I don’t get any alcohol burn at all on the nose which I would expect. In fact despite its high ABV, I don’t really get a ton of it until it’s down the hatch. Great nose and concentrated flavor on the palate, this is one of, if not my favorite ECBPs
