Deb & Chris’ Liquor Store Pick Nose- Cherry syrup, salted peanuts, vanilla, dark chocolate Palate- Wave of spice morphing into salted caramel, cherries, vanilla, dark chocolate, and heavily charred oak Finish- Medium, spicy finish with notes of toasted oak, cherries, and vanilla Mmm. Good stuff. How could you really go wrong when taking an already wonderful weller product and proofing it up, though? Nice and bold from nose to finish. Tons of spice, heavy oak, and tasty cherries. I like the peanuts on the nose but it unfortunately doesn’t translate over to the palate. Solid flavors of vanilla and traditional caramel as well on the palate. Finish could be a bit longer.

Macallan Double Cask 12 Year
Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed February 16, 2020 (edited March 2, 2020)Nose- candied orange, fresh oak, vanilla toffee, dried fruits, white chocolate Palate- honey, ginger, vanilla custard, bright citrus, strawberry jam Finish- Medium, waxy finish with candied orange, vanilla custard and ginger spice Macallan 12. A classic. A bit overpriced, and there are certainly better offerings out there for the price, but this is a fantastic sipper nonetheless and I would never turn down a dram. As far as keeping a bottle goes, I would rather shell out a bit more for a classic cut. -
Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 16, 2020 (edited February 17, 2020)Nose- figs, cherries, toasted oak, plums, almond croissant, spiced vanilla Palate- Plums, almond extract, leather, tobacco, vanilla, cherries, orange Finish- Long, Viscous finish with notes of baking spice, almonds, and cherries Lovely. My favorite offering from the EHT core line. Delicious cherries, dark figs, and almonds are the highlights here. Nice amounts of oak and barrel influence, and a bit of spice to wrap things up. Will always try and keep a bottle on hand -
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 6 (All Scenes)
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed February 15, 2020 (edited August 16, 2020)Act 6, Scene 1 Nose- baking spices, cinnamon, molasses, creme brulee, caramel, spiced vanilla Palate- molasses, oak, cloves, baking spices, black licorice, caramel, cinnamon, maple Finish- Long, creamy and spicy finish with notes of cinnamon, molasses, and creme brûlée Man oh man. This stuff is delicious. One of my favorite winter time drams. Lovely by snow or the fire place. Wonderful rye baking spices throughout, with notes of molasses, creme brûlée, and vanilla throughout. Great nose, nice creamy palate, with a spicy finish fit for any winters day. -
Nose- Sweet berry jam, citrus, rubber, ginger, honey Palate- Wet hay, strawberries, dark chocolate, rubber Finish- Medium, chewy finish with notes of rubber and an odd sour note Wow. Not. A. Fan. I’m usually a huge Deanston guy, but this one missed the mark for me. I could barely get through an oz. There’s rubber throughout (not a fan) and an odd sour note that I’ve never gotten before on a whisky that I do not enjoy. Theres some other odd flavors in there too that I can’t (and don’t want) to place. Pass.

Nose- Herbal/ vegetal note, black sharpie, sweet honey, peat smoke, sea salt Palate- Malty barnyard notes initially, wave of peat smoke, wood spice, sour berries, ashes Finish- Long, viscous finish with notes of heavy peat, sour berries, and sweet honey This is interesting. Not nearly as good as the 10 year Octomore that I’ve tried, but still good nonetheless. Surprisingly not much peat on the nose. I’m getting mainly earthy barnyard and herbal notes, with an odd smell of a black sharpie. The palate, on the other hand, is filled with peat smoke. Notes of honey and sour berries balance the smoke out, but I can’t get past this black sharpie note. The finish is a good one, with the sharpie drifting away, and giving way to peat smoke, sour berries, and honey.

Nose- Fig jam, mizunara oak, apples, oranges, buttered pastries, truffles, caramel, apricots Palate- strawberry jam, honey, caramel covered apples, raisins, mizunara oak, blackberries Finish- long, creamy finish with notes of honey, sweet apples, and a bit of spice The world famous Yama 18. The nose is outstanding, with different kinds of sweet jams, unmistakable mizunara oak, sweet fruits, pastries, the list goes on and on. The initial hit on the palate is that of sweet strawberry jam and honey sweetness. Apples take over the palate and move on to a sherry forward profile, rounding out to a long finish with spice, honey, and sweet apples once again. This stuff is delicious. Would be a 5/5 no doubt in my mind if it wasn’t $500+.

Nose- Heavy vanilla, cherry, orange zest, wood spice, lavender oil, dark fruits Palate- Baking spices initially, chocolate covered oranges, caramelized sugar, mint, oak Finish- Long, thin finish with notes of baking spices, herbal mint, and vanilla This stuff is good. Perfectly balanced just like M10 bourbon. I could easily sip on this every day. Great notes of baking spices, herbal mint, and vanilla. The vanilla is apparent throughout the entire experience and one of the most pronounced vanilla smells i’ve ever had

Nose- Raspberry syrup, bananas, honey sweetness, fruit leather, mixed berries Palate- Honey, cherries, sandalwood, herbal, banana, molasses Finish- Medium, thick and rich finish with notes of banana sweetness, honey, and a bit of wood spice Man oh man. The nose on this is to die for. The palate is great too, but doesn’t quite live up to the expectations that the nose set. Regardless, it’s a delicious and enjoyable dram. Unmistakable raspberry and banana on the nose, that follows through to the palate and all the way to the finish. Nice honey sweetness and herbal notes round out the palate as well. As with any Yama... I feel the finish could be longer, but with all these delicious flavors, it’s very hard to complain about this one.

Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Rye (2017 Release)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 6, 2020 (edited June 20, 2020)Nose- Caramel for days, seasoned wood, cherries, dill, cocoa powder, baking spices Palate- Baking spices, wood spice, cherries, dark chocolate, creamy vanilla, fruity syrup Finish- Long, thick finish with notes of dark chocolate, baking spices and vanilla This one is good, but nothing too wild. Solid sipper, with nice rye flavors... but nothing is blowing me away. It’s balanced and flavorful, but it still leaves me asking for more. The nose is a bit hot, but after a bit of time it evens out. Nice thick mouthfeel with lots of emphasis of wood throughout.
