Laphroaig Quarter Cask
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed April 12, 2016 (edited January 20, 2018)Tried it for the first time at a restaurant in Washington, D.C. I surprisingly found it more smoky than the 10y yet less peaty, less iodine, did not find the vanilla as present as most seem to say though, need to try it again (but I loved it) -
Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 27, 2016 (edited November 17, 2017)This one is hard to describe, not peaty but there is a hint of it looming. It evolves in the glass and becomes lighter, more vanilla, fruit but with some force in the finish. 4 or 5 drops of water lighten it (50% Abv tolerate it pretty well). It is nicely oily. I read that the bottle needs tone opened a few weeks to express itself fully. I think it is overall too young and too rough around the edges. -
Tried it a few times but never bought it because high prices where I live (>$100), found it at decent price at duty free in Frankfurt and boy am I happy I took a bottle. Beautiful peat integration, in my opinion more smokey, less iodine than Laphroaig and Ardbeg (love both), a more refined dram and dare I say I like it even better than my prized bottle of Laphroaig 18? With a few drops of water (only 3, for real), the smokey/peaty nose changes into something a bit more fruity, a revelation!

Tobermory 10 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed March 16, 2016 (edited February 15, 2017)A hint of peat and a solid foundation, I like this one better than a Balvenie Doublewood, more present, more interesting, reminders me a bit of Highland Park 12 -
Colkegan Single Malt Whiskey
American Single Malt — New Mexico, USA
Reviewed December 10, 2015 (edited March 9, 2019)Very interesting, I saw some articles about it and recently found it at my local liquor store for $46.00 (I am in Colorado) and decided to try it. It has definitely the characteristic of a single malt scotch, not an American Whiskey (Stranahan's which is a single malt still reminders me of a Bourbon more than a Scotch). It is surprisingly balanced, it's young age shows a little on the nose but becomes much more interesting as it sits for a few minutes in the glass, the palate is surprisingly balances, a touch of mesquite smoke but nicely restrained, not overpowering the sweet vanilla flavors. I was concerned that it only matured for 2 years but they managed to have it very balanced and restrained for such a young age, definitely a good whiskey, even compared to some quality scotch Whiskies that I usually enjoy (Balvenie, Laphroaig, Ardbeg). I cannot wait to have some of my friends to try it. I look forward to try some older expressions of this well crafted whiskey as the distillery evolves (I think they were only founded in 2010) -
Beautiful balance, smooth, interesting, lots going on without being overwhelming... Edit 6/6/2016 Finally got a bottle instead of repeatedly having it at bars when traveling. Love the nose, very fruity with a faint hint of peaty smoke. Palate is a delicate balance of fruits, honey, pears and delicate malt. Finish could be longer but nonetheless pleasant, the key work here is balanced and delicate, very high quality. Too bad it costs now so much in the US (received this one from my Father in Law who bought it for me in Belgium for less than 50 Euro)
