High West Bourye (2020 Release)
Blended American Whiskey — Indiana (bottled in Utah), USA
Reviewed December 27, 2020Very unique rye. Very sweet nose with vanilla and caramel. Not nearly as hot as I expected with such a high rye content which makes it much more palatable neat. Loads of vanilla throughout. Some caramel and leather upfront. Red hots and rye taste comes later with moderate finish. I’ll be looking for a bottle now! -
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed December 20, 2020 (edited December 23, 2020)Act:8 scene:4- I’ve been waiting with much anticipation for this bottle and I’m thrilled with it. Dark amber color and oak and rye on the nose. Modest flavor upfront, but then you get loads of Christmas spice, oak, rye, and vanilla. Great warm long lasting finish. Smooth for nearly 100 proof. Super comforting nostalgic rye! -

WhistlePig 15 Year Estate Oak Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed December 12, 2020 (edited July 5, 2022)Single barrel: 1365 I am a huge whistle pig fan, so this may be a bit biased... Awesome color. Strong wheat on the nose. That wheat and rye also comes through throughout. I get the typical whistle pig balanced warmth that I love so much. Nice winter spice, primarily cinnamon come on a little late. Great long finish. Only negative is that the rye/wheat flavor is so strong that you have to look for the other flavors. -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2020-03 "Pigskin Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 23, 2020 (edited December 5, 2020)Has a bit of a harsh nose, but notable oak and brown sugar. I actually love the color. Nice sweet upfront flavor of brown sugar and vanilla. Mild oily mouth feel. Burnt caramel precedes the chest warmth. I’m a big fan of its potency. -
Hotel Tango Rye, Ready to Drink
Rye — Indiana , USA
Reviewed October 26, 2020 (edited December 16, 2021)Great story and great rye. Well balanced heat thoughout. A great amount of flavor for such a young rye. Caramel and rye early. This turns to a burnt caramel and leather flavor later. Finish is moderate but pleasant with a little bitterness. Would happy to drink alone or in a cocktail. -
I’ll admit that I feel like when people say that a bourbon is a good cocktail bourbon, I feel like it’s a back-handed compliment. I totally understand it now though. Great sweet flavors of caramel and vanilla early and late after the finish. It gets a little harsh and flavor of alcohol is present in the middle. Fun social bourbon with a cool story.
