Enters on the nose with a subtle malty maple/vanilla essence and teases with some toasted green apple and fruit preserve notes. Very clean and not too much ethyl. The malt and barley come through much stronger on the palette as well as the fruit and preserve notes. There's a wonderful creamy texture that's very gentle and makes this an easy drinking delight. The soft playful flavors leave the palette as quickly as they arrived, keeping this spirit light and very approachable.

A very agreeable Canadian Rye with the familiar spiciness of Rye. Although, it brings in a slight woodsy, almost dusty, aromatic which is supported by the palette flavors. Caramel and vanilla subtlety sneaks in along with notes of malted barley (whether present or not). Very gentle as the caramel and vanilla undertones sneak in with a little maple. Hints of toasted marshmallow by a pine and cedar fire in the woods join the party. Overall, incredibly gentle on the palette and virtually no burn. Easy drinking for a Rye.

Pike Creek Canadian Whisky Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Canadian — Canada
Reviewed March 13, 2016 (edited June 2, 2016)Sweet richness of the Port barrels on the nose with the bold whiskey back suppoting it. Sweet wine and berry/fruity notes compliment the silky creaminess of this Canadian Whisky. Has a subtle warmth hitting the back of the tongue and top of the throat. Finishes dangerously smooth and rich as the dark grape notes of the port linger. Has a bourbon-esque playful, yet subtle, bite. Well worth experiencing. -
Very hot up front, but not overpowering. Notes of malted barley and vanillin creep in behind the warmth. Has a creamy butteriness on the palette as toasted vanilla and peppered caramel develop. At 100 proof, I'd recommend a little water or ice to calm down the heat and allow the subtle flavors to come out. As the flavors drift off the palette there is a warming of the bottom of the throat and top of the chest. (Almost has a dusty feel on the finish).

Enters gently on the nose with malted, and almost toasted, barley notes as well as a little tart frutiness. Also, picking up hints reminiscent of a lightly peated scotch and grain/hay. Sits light on the palette. No burn, but a subtle warmth in the back of the throat along with notes of creamy barley. Finishes with an almost woodsy vanilla with latent spiciness. An excellent choice for the price.

A smidge too sweet for my liking, but neither abrasive nor syrupy. Expected to feel like I was drinking cough syrup with whiskey and was pleasantly surprised with how palatable this whiskey is. Best enjoyed as a mixer (lemonade, sangria, or a little soda with lime twist). My personal favorite application being a couple of swirls over the top of a Manhattan. Far better than maraschino juice or liqueur, and a great substitute for grenadine.

Eastside Marionberry Whiskey
Flavored Whiskey — Oregon, USA
Reviewed March 11, 2016 (edited July 12, 2017)Sweet whiskey, but not too sweet. True to form flavors of the Oregon Marionberry with just enough whiskey backbone to keep away from the liqueur classification. A solid mixer and a great segue for those who are trying to transition from sweeter cocktails to the world of whiskey. Great with tart citrus, dry ginger beer, as a float on a sweet bourbon, or with just a couple of rocks in a glass. (Pro Tip: Experiment with ice cream for a boozy dessert) -
Aromas reminiscent of a Reposado (or younger) tequila, with hints of Scotch whisky as sweet peated notes sneak in. Very creamy on the mouth feel. Almost no warmth until about the middle of the chest, and quite subtle even then. Gentle woody notes appear beneath the creamy feel which I account to my mistaken reception of the malted barley. Perhaps, better pegged as a bit of a toasted marshmallow essence. Overall, an odd evolution of flavors as the palette gets more accustomed to this very interesting Maverick Whiskey. A tad sweet and seemingly flat in flavor to be my daily go-to, but a very respectable whiskey that is well worth experiencing for the unique nuance of aromas and flavors.

The nose comes in strong with ethyl notes but gives way to sweet, syrup, vanilla--supporting the palette. There's an up front heat, paired with a sweet, light (candied) syrup, that sits on the tip of the tongue and top of the throat. There's a slow warming of the chest as the palette opens to more notes of vanilla, subtle caramel and maple, and an almost chalky woodiness. Plenty of punch, but versatile enough to sip, mix, or shoot (if you're into that sorta thing). Pick your poison.

Buck 8 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in California), USA
Reviewed March 9, 2016 (edited September 12, 2017)One the nose; notes typical of a young bourbon, despite being an 8 year, and most forward with caramel and hints of maple syrup. On the palette; spiciness that hits the tip of the tongue and slowly evolves around the sides and to the back of the throat. Some subtle tannins coming in, quickly overshadowed by a vanilla finish. Overall, tastes very young and a little sharp for a 90 proof, 8 year, bourbon. Easy to drink, however, the shelf price seems to be representative of the age and bottle branding but seems a tad high compared to the actual quality.
