Glenfarclas 15 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 15, 2020 (edited September 16, 2020)Very nice dram. I like Glenfarclas, especially as it compares to another Speyside distillery that starts with an M. On the nose, I get pears, red apple and some vanilla. Tastes of dried fruit and some licorice. Classic Glenfarclas with a little burn from the slightly higher ABV. Finish is medium, nothing spectacular, blackberry jam and red wine. Overall great and would be my go to Glenfarclas if it was available in the US. -
Lagavulin Offerman Edition 11 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 1, 2020 (edited September 14, 2020)Smoke, heather, grass, vanilla and some mint and pine on the nose. Initial Taste of campfire smoke and ash, turns to meaty BBQ, clove spiced. Wood notes in there as well. Meaty finish lasts a while, good mouth feel. A splash of water brings out the grass and pine on the nose and tamps down the smoke on the taste at first, bringing the pepper and meat forward. The smoke returns on the finish. Good, complex dram. There are layers here that should be picked a part. -
Compass Box The Peat Monster
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed August 16, 2020 (edited October 3, 2020)Smoke, peat and floral on the nose. Tastes of some pear, in the smoky peat ness. Sweet, lingering and spiced finish. Nice dram. -
Ardbeg took a chance here and I dig it. They could have done an NAS, but instead come out with a 5 year that is priced appropriately. Nose has some light pear, wood and brine. Taste of chocolate, leather and tar. It’s a great whisky, hopefully Ardbeg produces enough for it to be plentiful and available.
