Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 2
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 20, 2016 (edited June 17, 2022)Tried at Dan's Bicton tasting. Was batch 3 we had. The event organiser used everyone's $20 entry to crack a bottle for all to sample. This is the most expensive bottle I've tried at around $600. It was rich and full, with a strong burst of flavour and a spicy bite that hits at the end. Better and easier to recognise the spices at the end without being assaulted by them with a small splash of water added. Enjoyed and nice to try, didn't love it personally though -
Tried at Dan's Bicton tasting. This was my favourite of some great stuff sampled. I've never tried something that has more of a clean and identifiable hit of fruit in it than this. It really stands up on the palate. Right in the middle, BANG fruit. What I couldn't do though is say exactly which fruit, but it was tropical and closest I could guess was pineapple. So interesting with that loud fruit note in the middle that invites you to keep sipping. I like interesting and enjoyed this one for sure. Is limited edition and $200 as of now - Dog bought a bottle after the tasting so hopefully get to sample it again with him

Tried at Dan's Bicton tasting after scoring some extra sampling tokens from an old chap who was leaving early. I didn't mind the flavours, and there is a little sightseeing here which is good. Overall though I think I like getting punched in the face a bit more while wandering though an Islay. Prefer Ardbeg and Lagavulin to this. It compares as a more shit-talking, sweatervest wearing wanker of a smoke excursion

Sampled at Dan's Bicton tasting with Bud and Dog. Nice (haven't had a bad Ardbeg) but prefer the more in your face and deeper Ten and the far more identifiably complex Uigeadail. This one seems overly balanced out if that makes any sense, and a bit one flavoured the way through. I don't get the same journey in terms of complexity as the other Ardbegs I've had

Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 20, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Tried at Dan's Bicton tasting. Sweet, spicy, rich and smooth. Me likey. Most of the sweetness and port is in the nice long finish. One and done on this as it's pricey and limited edition, glad to have sampled it though -
Glenmorangie Nectar D'or 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 19, 2016 (edited November 20, 2016)Had as a nightcap on the rocks as offered by Rob after looking after the twins. Shrek is still pretty good. Smashmouth intro was sung with gusto, crowd pleaser! Nice, very smooth and well balanced. Moreish and I'd say 3ish
